Fox Swift breaks city duck at Flemington

Fox Swift has rewarded the patience of her owners with a stakes race victory at Flemington.

A maiden winner at Moe last month, Fox Swift has now assured her value as a broodmare with victory in Saturday’s Listed Cap D’Antibes Stakes.

Ridden by Mark Zahra, Fox Swift ($18) scored by a short-neck from Split Lip ($19) with Luqyaa ($26) three-quarters-of-a-length away third.

Trainer Ciaron Maher described Fox Swift as an honest filly who will continue to improve as she has still not lost most of her winter coat.

“Credit to the owners, they’ve backed the stable to do what we wanted with her and it’s a great result today,” Maher said.

“She’s a very adaptable filly. She’s a very easy horse to ride and a very easy horse to train.

“She could get out to 1400 (metres) but it’s great to get that elusive black type today.”

Mahar went into Saturday’s race with some confidence after Fox Swift finished second to Blondie at Sandown at her last start.

Blondie then went to Moonee Valley last week finishing second in the Atlantic Jewel Stakes.

Maher said he’s unsure of how far Fox Swift will extend into the spring as he’s been looking for a reason to put her out, however the filly continues to please in her work and races.
