Finding winners for the week 9 A-League multi of the week
OFFICIALLY two months of the A-League season has been completed, yet the table looks strangely similar.
Sydney FC remain undefeated and Adelaide continue to occupy bottom spot on the ladder without a win to its name.
Both Melbourne teams are continuing to push towards the top of the ladder, and while Brisbane is experiencing an undefeated streak that extends back to round two, they have just two wins to their name.
Several important and potentially finals-shaping games await in round nine and we believe we have put together a multi this weekend which will deliver a nice payout for our readers.
All odds for the ninth week of the A-League season were provided by Sportsbet.com.au, who is offering punters a fantastic inducement for those yet to sign up.
New customers can get their first bet at Sportsbet matched up to the value of $501.
Selections for the week 9 A-League multi:
Western Sydney Wanderers to defeat Central Coast Mariners ($1.87)
Melbourne City to beat Brisbane Roar ($1.90)
Sydney FC to beat Newcastle Jets ($1.75)
Welling Phoenix or draw against Adelaide United ($1.90)
Combined multi value: $11.81 @ Sportsbet.com.au
Western Sydney Wanderers vs. Melbourne City
Saturday, December 3 from 5.35pm AEDST Central Coast Stadium, Gosford
The luckless Wanderers travel to Gosford to take on the high-flying Mariners to kick off our multi this weekend.
The home side recorded their second win of the season in sensational fashion last week against the Perth Glory. The Mariners controlled the game from the outset and never looked like conceding a goal, let alone the lead.
Over the last six weeks the Wanderers have found themselves in winning positions but have failed to land the killer blow. Tony Popovic’s men are yet to win a game since the round two 2015/16 grand final rematch but have lost just once in that time frame.
If the Wanderers are to step up and bridge the three point gap between themselves and the fifth placed Roar now is the time to do it. We are backing WSW to get their season back on track on Saturday afternoon.
Western Sydney Wanderers to win – $1.87
Melbourne City vs. Brisbane Roar
Saturday, December 3 from 7.50pm AEDST, AAMI Park, Melbourne
The second placed Melbourne City host the fourth placed Brisbane Roar fresh off their FFA Cup win on Wednesday night.
City will be looking to record their fourth win from five matches across all competitions. John van’t Schip’s men are three points clear in second position and finally have the elusive piece of silverware in their cabinet. The shackles are officially off.
Brisbane Roar are undefeated across their last six matches, but no wins in their last three has stymied their rise up the table.
John Aloisi also has his issues on the injury front. Key midfielder Brett Holman is set to miss the next six weeks of football after sustaining a knee injury.
It makes a hard road trip against one of the best teams in the league all the more harder.
We are expecting City to win this one comfortably and keep our multi rolling in the right direction.
Melbourne City to win – $1.90
Newcastle Jets vs. Sydney FC
Sunday, December 4 from 5pm AEDST, McDonald Jones Stadium, Newcastle
The league leading Sydney FC travel up the highway to face the Jets in Newcastle for the third leg of our A-League multi.
Sydney is yet to taste defeat this season in the A-League.
Their only loss in the last two months of football came in Wednesday night’s FFA Cup final against Melbourne City, but the Sky Blues’ focus would have already shifted from that to Sunday afternoon.
Despite displaying some quality play over the last month the Jets have just one point to their names from the last five outings.
The poor showing has seen Newcastle ($2.70 for the wooden spoon at Sportsbet.com.au) firm into favouritism to finish last this campaign.
This one looks pretty cut and dried to us. Sydney FC should keep their undefeated streak alive whilst condemning Newcastle to a fifth loss from six attempts.
Sydney FC to win – $1.75
Adelaide United vs. Wellington Phoenix
Sunday, December 4 from 7pm AEDST, Cooper Stadium, Adelaide
The winless Adelaide United host the resurgent Wellington Phoenix in the final game of our multi and potentially the most interesting match of the weekend.
Last year’s title winners have just three points to their name at the nine round mark in the 2016/17 campaign. The Reds are three points adrift of the next best team and are $4.50 at Sportsbet.com.au to win this season’s wooden spoon.
After poor start to the season Wellington has turned their campaign around. The ‘nix have won two of their last three matches and finally look to have harnessed the attacking flair that looks so dynamic on paper.
We could not believe a team that has yet to record a victory his campaign could come into this matchup as a short-priced favourite. We are happy to take the double chance on the Phoenix to end our multi.
Wellington Phoenix to win or draw – $1.90
