Don continues endless run of winners

Peter Hulbert has been left to ponder the vagaries of racing after Endless Don continued the trainer’s success with the offspring of broodmare Endless Maize.

Endless Don ($1.80) was having his 15th start when he came from last to win a maiden (2200m) at Doomben.

But Hulbert and his training partner, son Will, were entitled to think Endless Don would have won a maiden well before Thursday.

“For his first start in September 2015 we took him to Beaudesert for what we thought would be a relatively easy three-year-old maiden,” Hulbert said.

“He ran second to I’m Belucci who two starts later was placed in the Group One Spring Champion Stakes and then was placed in the Queensland Derby.

“The third horse in the Beaudesert race was Stella Ombra who has won Saturday races in town. Here we are 14 starts later winning a 2200 metre maiden.”

Hulbert said Endless Don could be wayward but he showed staying ability.

“We actually entered him in a 2400 metre race at Beaudesert today but thought we might as well come to town,” he said.

The Hulberts have won about 20 races with the offspring of Lilivale Stud’s broodmare Endless Maize including Endless Shadow, Endless Days, and Endless Puzzle.

“I think the best of her runners to date will be the two-year-old Excelebrazione and Endless Maize also has a yearling by Sizzling who we will train,” Hulbert said.

Endless Don was ridden by Brad Stewart while premier jockey Jeff Lloyd brought up his 80th winner for the season on Fleur D’Orage ($5) who scored her fifth win but her first on a dry track when she won the Band 0-70 (1200m).

Lloyd, said drawing barrier one had been a key to the mare’s win.

Trainer Stuart Kendrick brought up his 50th overall winner for the season with a double through Tarzan ($3) and Rare Occurrence ($2.60), both ridden by his apprentice Tiffani Brooker who claimed her first metropolitan treble when she added Sorority Sister to her haul.
