Chris Munce’s run with juveniles continues

Trainer Chris Munce’s run of success with two-year-olds has continued at Eagle Farm and he is looking to maintain the momentum over the weekend.

Munce brought up his sixth juvenile win of the season when first starter Sir Cass ($6) fought back after being headed at the 150m mark to win at Eagle Farm on Wednesday.

“It is not often two-year-olds can win first-up at 1200 metres. He had to do it the hard way racing with no cover,” Munce said.

In only his second year as a traine, the former champion jockey has already had 65 winners and a good percentage of those have been in two-year-old races.

“We have built up our team of young horses so things look bright for the future,” he said.

Munce has won juvenile races with Ours To Keep (2), Champ Elect (2), Skate To Paris and Sir Cass.

Ours To Keep will be among the favourites for Saturday’s Group Three B J McLachlan Stakes (1200m) at Eagle Farm.

“He has come along nicely since his last start win at Doomben and Saturday’s race should top him off nicely for the Magic Millions Two-Year-old Classic,” Munce said.

Munce said Champ Elect would go into the Millions on January 14 without another run.

In another first on Wednesday, Beany Panya, the twin sister of leading Sydney apprentice Deanne Panya, joined an exclusive club of junior riders to win at their first ride on a metropolitan track

She led all the way to win on Si Si Sequalo for her master Pat Duff in the Class Two Hcp (1000m).

“Beany is one of the hardest workers I have had and she deserved her chance in town. She followed instructions perfectly to lead on the fence and once she gets more experience she will ride many more winners,” Duff said.

Panya moved drom NSW to Queensland in May, hoping for more opportunities.

“It is a real thrill to win and especially for Mr Duff. He has been a great help to me,” Panya said.
