Chelsea Hall to fill Qld apprentice void

Victorian apprentice Chelsea Hall is looking forward to her stint in Queensland.

Experienced Victorian apprentice Chelsea Hall will fill a void in Brisbane racing when she gets into full swing during her stay in the north.

There is a lack of experienced three-kilo claiming apprentices in Brisbane with the majority having 2kg or 1.5kg claims.

Hall is on loan to Eagle Farm trainer Dan Bougoure for three months and hopes to make it a permanent arrangement.

She has ridden 136 winners in Victoria and South Australia and while she has no provincial allowance still has 3kg in the metropolitan area.

“The opportunities will be limited in the spring in Melbourne and Queensland is a place which gives apprentices a go,” she said.

Bougoure believes Hall will fit perfectly into the Brisbane racing scene.

“She arrived this week and immediately impressed as a hard worker. Chelsea has ridden 136 winners so she is very experienced and I see no reason why she won’t make it here,” Bougoure said.

Bougoure said Hall would be booked for rides through jockey manager Rachel Allen.

Fellow rider Skye Bogenhuber has been allowed back on a horse after missing the past five months because of an injury sustained in a trackwork fall at Toowoomba.

Bogenhuber posted a photograph on social media of herself on a horse this week but does not yet have a date to return to race riding.

Senior rider Larry Cassidy missed Doomben on Saturday after discovering he has a hairline fracture in his right leg sustained three weeks ago.

He should have a clearer picture of how long he will be out after tests this week.
