Friday night football for round nine of the 2024 NRL Premiership wraps up in Brisbane with a blockbuster clash as the Broncos host the Sydney Roosters at Suncorp Stadium.

The Roosters have struggled through injuries and suspension in recent weeks, losing three of their last five matches. However, they did demolish the Dragons on ANZAC Day at Allianz Stadium courtesy of a Sam Walker masterclass from halfback.

Meanwhile, the Broncos have begun clicking into gear, winning four of their last five matches — all by 13 or more points. Their only loss in that stretch was a narrow defeat to the Storm in Melbourne.

Sydney Roosters coach Trent Robinson has named Daniel Tupou to return from a knee problem, with Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii moving back to the centres in place of the injured Michael Jennings (triceps). The team is otherwise unchanged, although Victor Radley has been named in the reserves and could be a late inclusion.

Brisbane Broncos coach Kevin Walters welcomes back Deine Mariner (back), Ezra Mam (finger) and Selwyn Cobbo (shoulder) from injury. Mam replaces the injured Jock Madden (pectoral) in the halves, while Jesse Arthars moves back to the wing and Corey Oates drops to the reserves.

The Broncos are expected to start as strong favourites at their home ground given they are welcoming back a trio of stars to the outside backs.

The Broncos failed to beat the Roosters in the opening round due to ill-discipline with ball in hand and back-rower Brendan Piakura failing an early HIA. However, they have won each of their last six matches at Suncorp Stadium, and they’ve covered the line in 12 of their last 13 matches against top-eight teams. The Broncos should be able to continue this form and secure a fifth victory by 13 or more points in six weeks ($2.35).

Both clubs have strong forward packs that can dominate the middle third and put their respective teams in positions to score. Across these two sides are seven State of Origin players, with another four having international experience. Both teams often find points easy to come by, so it makes sense to back a high-scoring match that goes over 41.5 total points ($1.90).

When these two sides met at The Gabba last season, Brisbane five-eighth Ezra Mam recorded two tackle breaks and a line break in 162 running metres to score two tries. His return to the Broncos side will strengthen their left-edge attack, and he looks a great bet to score a try again ($2.55).
