Perth Scorchers vs Adelaide Strikers BBL13 preview

With the regular season concluded, the Big Bash Finals are here as the Perth Scorchers take on the Adelaide Strikers in the Knockout Final at Optus Stadium.

With a top-two spot on the line in their final match of the regular season, the Perth Scorchers fell in a last-ball thriller to the Sydney Sixers on Tuesday night. Going down in a record chase at Optus Stadium, the Scorchers have subsequently missed out on a double chance. After losing three of their last five games this season, the two-time defending champions now face a much tougher path to the title.

The Adelaide Strikers enter this finals series in very different form, winning their final four matches of the season to scrape into the top four. In their final match of the season, the Strikers comfortably dealt with the Sydney Thunder to win by nine wickets with 23 balls to spare.

Looking towards the matchup, the spectators are set for a treat, with quality on both sides of the park. BBL 13 leading run scorer Matt Short leads the way for the Strikers as he faces the second and third highest run scorers, Aaron Hardie and Laurie Evans, from the Scorchers. Unfortunately, the Strikers will be without Chris Lynn, who has also been excellent this tournament.

With the ball, Strikers import Jamie Overton has been exceptional over their last few matches of the season to lead the BBL in wickets. However, closely behind him in the wickets tally are the Scorchers pace pairing of Jason Behrendorff and Lance Morris, who thrive in home conditions.

Sydney Thunder vs Melbourne Renegades betting predictions

After beating the Scorchers in their previous matchup this season, the Strikers will be confident of their chances of another upset here. Losing Lynn, there will be a heavy reliance on their top order to do the damage, as early wickets could expose their long tail. On the other hand, the Scorchers have shown their batting depth is a strength, and against one of the weaker bowling attacks in the BBL, they should have too much firepower here. Back the Scorchers at home at -161.29 with Neds.

With a wealth of experience in the T20 format globally, Scorchers bowler Andrew Tye is built to perform under finals pressure. With the Strikers lower order showing weakness, Tye can turn the match as he bowls his wide variety of variations at the death. Despite the quality of his fellow fast bowlers, we are tipping Tye to break this match open as the top Scorchers wicket taker at +300 with top online bookmakers.

In the midst of an incredible patch of form, Strikers opening batsman Matt Short is set to win his second consecutive player of the tournament. By far the most important player in this match, a big innings from Short is the most likely path to any Strikers upset. He scored 76* in their nine-wicket win over the Scorchers earlier in the tournament, and we back him for another big knock this weekend of 50+ runs at +270 with the leading cricket bookies.
