Australian Open Day 3 tips, top odds & value bets – 19/1/2022
Another day, another set of Australian Open betting tips. Our tennis tipster has picked out three markets to consider for Wednesday’s games.
Pedro Martinez ($2.30) v Cristian Garin ($1.61)
Both players had to fight hard to earn their way into this second-round encounter. Pedro Martinez from Spain won in four sets against Federico Delbonis, with the first set being won in a 32-point tiebreaker. He showed a lot of class for someone who is ranked 61st in the world and he should be treated with respect by all who play him in this tournament.
Cristian Garin from Chile, ranked 18th in the world, has already had his fitness tested with a five-set victory over Facundo Bagnis. With the weather in Melbourne expected to be 27 C on Wednesday this should present a challenge for Garin, who will have to find a way to refresh his body in time.
Playing in such weather two days after a very long and competitive match is always tough, and this game will be an opportunity for Martinez to show his talent. He is capable of taking at least one set against someone of Garin’s ability.
Cristian Garin to win 3-2
Jil Teichmann ($1.54) v Victoria Azarenka ($2.26)
Victoria Azarenka from Belarus has won the Australian Open twice, but that was a long time ago. Nowadays she’s ranked 24th in the world and doing well if she can make it into the second week. She’s still a good player, but this is the first time in six years that Azarenka has progressed to the second round at Melbourne Park.

Jil Teichmann from Switzerland is ranked 37th in the world and easily accounted for Petra Martic, who is ranked 54th in the world. This will be Teichmann’s first ever second-round match at the Australian Open, but she has been a steady improver over the last few years and has previously beaten Naomi Osaka, Angelique Kerber and Karolina Pliskova on hard courts.
One is in the ascendency, the other is in decline. Superior athleticism and shot selection should see Teichmann prevail in what should be challenging conditions.
Jil Teichmann / Under 19.5 games
Harmony Tan ($5.30) v Elina Svitolina ($1.14)
Harmony Tan from France might be 110th in the world, but she had a convincing straight-sets win in the first round against Yulia Putintseva and there’s no reason why she shouldn’t continue that form into the second round.
Elina Svitolina, who is ranked 15th in the world, had to go to a tiebreaker in the second set to beat Fiona Ferro, who has a similar ranking to Tan. This match looks like it be a dangerous game for Svitolina, who was easily beaten by Madison Keys a just over a week ago in Adelaide.
If we forget the career statistics and just focus on the recent form, then this match should be a tough contest between two baseliners with the key factor being attitude and fitness. For that reason Tan is a good bet to win the opening set, with juicy odds on offer at the top tennis betting sites.
Harmony Tan to win 1st set
