AFLW Round 7 odds, betting tips & market update
Only three rounds remain before the 2021 AFLW Finals commence, meaning the rush to fit inside the top six is getting tighter by the day. All the expected winners got the job done in round six, but this week’s games are far less predictable. Here are our AFLW betting tips and top odds for round seven.
AFLW Round 7 betting odds and predictions
Gold Coast Suns $2.75 vs Richmond Tigers $1.43
Following their embarrassing 70-point loss to the Adelaide Crows last week, the Gold Coast Suns have a chance to get their first win of the season. Monique Conti was a huge late out for the Tigers last week, but they still competed well in the second half against the Roos. We expect Conti returns this Friday and the Tigers comfortably get their second win of the season.
Richmond -8.5
St Kilda Saints $1.62 vs GWS Giants $2.27
Both these clubs were beaten badly in round six, but they are a good match for each other. With two wins apiece so far this season, the Saints and Giants will need a big run home to have any chance of playing finals. We like St Kilda as Caitlyn Greiser and Kate Shierlaw have excellent hands in the air and should hit the scoreboard, while the GWS backline cannot handle two key targets.
St Kilda -4.5
North Melbourne Kangaroos $1.24 vs Western Bulldogs $3.95
In terms of importance, this could be the biggest match of the round. North Melbourne and the Western Bulldogs both have four wins after the first six rounds to sit fifth and seventh on the ladder respectively, meaning they are basically each other fighting for a spot in the finals. The Roos are more potent going forward and should use their excellent wingers to quickly get the ball forward.
North Melbourne by 1-39 points
Melbourne Demons $2.79 vs Adelaide Crows $1.42
The tide has turned in favour of the Crows over the past couple of weeks, but we think there is a big upset brewing for this contest. The Dees beat St Kilda by a comfortable 44 points in a match where Daisy Pierce was a clear standout with her delivery into the forward half. Adelaide’s well-drilled structures have demolished teams in the last two rounds, but the Dees move the footy with purpose and should beat the zone. Even if they don’t win, we think the Demons are the better option on the line.
Melbourne +10.5
Carlton Blues $4.05 vs Fremantle Dockers $1.23
The Dockers ruled last week’s Western Derby from start to finish, but the Eagles looked done by quarter time and were not seriously competitive. The Blues are in good form and should hold the line in front of their home fans this Sunday. The midfield battle is set to be mouth-watering, and we think the combination of Madison Prespakis and Grace Egan can break even with the powerful Dockers.
Carlton +16.5
Brisbane Lions $1.78 vs Collingwood Magpies $2.03
Out of the three Sunday matches, this is clearly the most important. The Lions have looked good all season long, but the Magpies are still undefeated. Every time the online bookmakers place the Magpies as outsiders, they shock the league and win, and we think that will be the case once again here. Chloe Molloy is simply a match-winner up forward for the Pies and won’t be stopped by any Lions defender.
Collingwood to win
West Coast Eagles $1.68 vs Geelong Cats $2.15
Even without Olivia Purcell last week, the Cats proved they have enough fight for us to back them in here. The biggest problem with the Eagles is a midfield that cannot effectively move the ball forward with any consistency, which will fit well for the intercepting Geelong defenders. The Cats will be desperate to get their first win of the season, and we think this is the best chance they will get.
Geelong to win
AFLW 2021 Premiership betting update – Tuesday, March 9
The Adelaide Crows broke away from the top end into outright favouritism at $4 after beating the Gold Coast Suns by 70 points over the weekend. The Magpies remain unbeaten at $4.50, but they are set to face three tough opponents to close out their season. If the Brisbane Lions can beat Collingwood in round seven, their odds at $7 could drop dramatically. Four teams have been wiped from the market since they are now mathematically unable to make the top six.
