AFLW Round 4 odds, betting tips & market news
Round three has blown the 2021 AFLW competition wide open, with two huge upsets causing mass drama in the premiership race. Round four is shaping up to be another important round for AFLW betting and deciding which teams make the top six. Here are our top tips, with all odds provided by Sportsbet.com.au.
AFLW Round 4 betting preview and predictions
St Kilda Saints $1.26 vs Geelong Cats $3.75
In the AFL, St Kilda and Geelong were once among the biggest rivals in the competition, but this will be the first time their AFLW counterparts meet. The Saints were disappointing against the Blues last round, while the Cats have kicked just four goals this season. The Saints need to get back to their best footy if they want to make the finals, and this clash should serve as a confidence booster.
St Kilda to win
Carlton Blues $1.07 vs Richmond $8
This will be the fourth round the Blues start as favourites, yet they only got their first win last weekend against the Saints. Richmond put up a tremendous fight against Collingwood, putting together its highest score of the season and moving the ball well through the midfield. Take the Tigers at the 25.5 line, as the team is building better chemistry each week in search of its first AFLW victory.
Richmond -25.5
Fremantle Dockers $1.04 vs Gold Coast Suns $10
We tipped the Dockers to upset the Crows in round three, but you do not have to be informed to realise they will beat the Suns here. With Gemma Houghton second in the league for goals kicked and the Suns conceding the second-most points in the league, Freo should bury the inexperienced Gold Coast side this Saturday.
Fremantle -25.5
North Melbourne Kangaroos $1.46 vs Collingwood Magpies $2.66
This is one of the best matches on offer in round four as the Kangaroos and Magpies meet at Marvel Stadium. The Roos should bounce back after their slim loss to the Demons last week, unless the Pies’ forwards crack North’s defence early. The Magpies defence has held up beautifully this season, but stopping the Roos’ quick ball movement and contested marking inside 50 won’t be not easy.
North Melbourne to win
Brisbane Lions $1.60 vs Adelaide Crows $2.28
The Lions are on top of the AFLW ladder with a percentage of 500 as they continue to belt every team that opposes them, but the Crows will be their first tough opponent of the season so far. We see this game going either way, but the home-field advantage in Brisbane should be the difference.
Brisbane Lions to win
Western Bulldogs $2.77 vs Melbourne Demons $1.43
Daisy Pearce and the Demons have thrived at Casey Fields so far this season, beating both the Tigers and Kangaroos there in stunning fashion, but this week they head out to Whitten Oval to face the Bulldogs. Ellie Blackburn is leading the way for the Doggies this year as one of just two players to make the AFLW team of the week three times, but this classy Melbourne outfit should be too good on the road.
Melbourne to win $1.43
GWS Giants $1.39 vs West Coast Eagles $2.93
Upon watching the last two matches from both teams, we think GWS is in trouble this week. The Eagles conceded only two goals against the Dockers and then kicked the first two against Brisbane in round three, while the Giants scrapped out a poor contest against the Suns in perfect conditions. We think the Eagles will put up a huge fight and hold the 10.5-point line.
West Coast +10.5
2021 AFLW Premiership market update
We have a new favourite in the premiership race, with Fremantle usurping North Melbourne after round three’s proceedings. The Dockers proved they can play outside of WA in their 30-point victory over Adelaide, another premiership fancy. Melbourne has also come in hard after beating North at Casey Fields in a high-scoring affair. Keep an eye on Brisbane and Collingwood, as both teams are still undefeated.
