AFL Finals 2020 Betting Update: Lions and Power surge ahead
If the entire 2020 AFL Finals Series matches the intensity of the first week, we’re in for an amazing ride. Let’s see how the opening round of the postseason has affected the major AFL futures betting markets at Sportsbet.com.au.
Lions leap ahead in AFL Premiership betting
The Richmond Tigers have led the 2020 AFL Premiership betting for much of the year, but they’ve fallen below both the Brisbane Lions and Port Adelaide Power following their qualifying final result.
Damian Hardwick’s men will need to take the long route towards the AFL Grand Final by beating both St Kilda and Port – two impressive teams that defeated the Tigers during the home-and-away season.
The love for Geelong fell off after the Cats lost to Port Adelaide, but considering their only issue was goalkicking accuracy, they may still loom as a dangerous smokey.
The Collingwood Magpies are still beyond single figures despite beating the Eagles in Perth, but a win over the Cats would make them hard to ignore.
The Saints would have better odds if not for their three big exclusions this week, as Paddy Ryder is out with a hamstring injury, Ben Long has been suspended and Jake Carlisle is leaving the hub for the birth of his child.

Qualifying final winners dominate AFL exacta betting
Last week we highlighted the value on offer in the AFL Grand Final exacta market, and it’s a similar story heading into the second weekend of the finals.
The shortest available odds tip Brisbane to beat Port Adelaide at $5, which was paying a massive $17 this time last week.
Ken Hinkley’s Power to beat Chris Fagan’s Lions has dropped from $21 to $5.50, the biggest change in the market.
Any combination involving the Lions has shortened a long way, as their impressive win over the Tigers has taken out the biggest obstacle on their road to the big dance.
It’ll be a tough task for either Geelong or Collingwood to knock off Brisbane in the preliminary final, but we’ve already seen that anything can happen in 2020.

Quinella market pointing towards 2004 AFL Grand Final replay
Last time we assessed the AFL quinella market was midway through September, back when Geelong vs Richmond was favourite at $5.
The preliminary finalists now top the betting at $2.75, but there’s also plenty of love for the Lions and Tigers ($4) to clash on the final day.
The quinella market will be cut down to just four options after this weekend, so right now is your best chance to find some real value.

Riewoldt jumps into favouritism for most AFL Finals goals
Tom Hawkins blew his chance to lead this market by a landslide when he kicked five behinds from six shots in Geelong’s loss to Port, moving his odds from $3.50 to $9.
Jack Riewoldt now tops the market at $3.75 after kicking two majors in Richmond’s defeat to Brisbane, while Tom Lynch is still in the area despite not playing yet.
Because the Tigers must play their way through the semis, their star forwards could have more opportunities to hit the scoreboard than their counterparts who are already prepping for the prelims.
Charlie Cameron offers the best value in our eyes, as the Brisbane forward already has three goals on the board and could play in two more matches.
Look out for Jordan De Goey at $11, as he kicked a bag of five when Collingwood faced Geelong in round seven.
