Australia’s NBL season kicks off this Friday when the Adelaide 36ers go up against Melbourne United at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre.

Plenty of changes were made to both rosters during the off-season, with the United squad becoming championship favourites after their acquisitions.

Scotty Hopson and Jack White are two new Melbourne players that should make a huge impact this season, with White coming straight from Duke’s NCAA squad.

The 36ers will run offence through a very exciting young talent in Josh Giddey, who’s touted as Australia’s future international starting point guard.

Giddey will need to work well in his NBL debut to match the league’s championship favourites.

Melbourne won two of its three clashes against the 36ers in the 2019-20 season, its only loss coming in South Australia, where this match is scheduled for tip off.

Even though all three of their 2019-20 season’s clashes exceeded 185 total points, you have to consider the early-season nerves. An array of players will be making their debuts and both coaches will see how their new squads blend on offence. We believe the crowd absence will be hard to deal with early in the season too, as players slowly adjust to the new normal.

Starting at around the $1.40 with most online bookmakers, the Melbourne United boys are in a good position to start their new campaign. With Chris Goulding leading the way and Hopson providing excellent scoring output, the 36ers have too much on their plate. The young Adelaide squad will take time before it starts winning matches, but they love the Adelaide Entertainment Centre and will put up a decent fight.
