Friday night NBL action tips off in the City of Churches with the Adelaide 36ers hosting the Cairns Taipans at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre. Both teams recorded bounce-back wins in their last starts, and at the halfway point of the season they need to keep building their respective streaks to catch the New Zealand Breakers.

The Taipans recorded a narrow win over the Kings last start, led by Keanu Pinder and DJ Hogg, while an all round team effort from the 36ers saw them thump the Perth Wildcats on the road. The 36ers have won four of their last five games against the Taipans and will be looking to continue their streak on Friday.

The last time these two clubs met, Adelaide humiliated the Taipans in Adelaide by 26 points to take home the win. The Taipans lineup has changed drastically since that night, and while the margin should be a lot closer, it’s highly unlikely Cairns come out of this victorious. Expect the 36ers to get the win at home by 1-10 points ($2.55).

A majority of contests between these two clubs result in low-scoring matches. Most notably was their last clash when the Taipans barely scored more than a point a minute, and the 36ers recorded a huge victory. As this Taipans side changes, so does its defensive pressure, which should ensure this match stays below 172.5 total match points ($1.90).

Key matchup: Anthony Drmic vs DJ Hogg

The battle in the front court will be a close one as these two players play vastly different roles in similar positions for their respective sides. Anthony Drmic roams the paint as a big who can pass the ball, while getting to the basket himself or taking the odd shot from range. DJ Hogg, on the other hand, is a stretch forward who spaces the floor from outside the three point line to create passing lanes, space and offense for his side. The two are likely to get caught in pick and roll action, bringing Drmic out of the paint to isolate him with Hogg. Should Hogg take advantage of the mismatch, he will give the Taipans a huge chance of winning on the road.
