2019 Cricket World Cup betting preview – Australia vs England
Australia | $2.10 at Ladbrokes | |
England | $1.73 at Ladbrokes |
The oldest rivalry in the sport will flare up this Tuesday when Australia take on England in the group stage of the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup.
The green and gold are sitting pretty with five wins from six games, yet pundits and bookies alike are refusing to brand them as favourites.
Australia’s patient approach with the bat has divided public opinion, with David Warner coming in for special criticism despite scoring two hundreds and another two half-centuries in six innings.
The reigning champions will hope to silence their doubters with a big win over the tournament hosts at Lord’s.

Whereas the Aussies have copped flak for going too slow, some reckless batting in key moments has left England in a spot of bother.
There were some questionable shot selections in the shock loss to Sri Lanka, most notably from Moeen Ali when a steady hand was needed.
That leaves Eoin Morgan and company in a tricky position with games against the top three of Australia, India and New Zealand still to play.
Worse still is the fact England have not beaten any of those teams in World Cup cricket since 1992, with their streak against the Kiwis going back even further to 1983.
Australia vs England top runscorer betting
David Warner – $3.75 at Sportsbet
The criticism levelled at Warner makes little sense when you look at the CWC 2019 batting charts, where he sits top with 447 runs at 89.40. If this is what ordinary form looks like, God help the rest of the world when he finds some touch.
Joe Root – $4 at Ladbrokes
With Jason Roy still in doubt due to a torn hamstring, Root offers excellent value at first drop. It is interesting to note that the England skipper’s career strike rate of 87.53 is about the same as Warner’s in this tournament (87.30).
Australia vs England top wicket-taker odds
Mitchell Starc – $3.30 at Sportsbet
This market is becoming a perpetual toss-up between Starc and Pat Cummins, which says something about the rest of the Aussie bowling attack. If he gets a couple of early wickets, you can pencil in the big lefty to finish with four or five once he’s done with the tail.
Jofra Archer – $3.50 at Sportsbet
Archer has taken exactly three wickets in five of his six games at CWC 2019, so his consistency is hard to fault. Mark Wood is also bowling well for the Brits, but Jofra’s extra pace and variety make him the more dangerous prospect against the better batsmen.
Australia vs England CWC 2019 match betting
Both of these teams have plenty of questions to answer as the semi-finals loom, but England should be feeling a hell of a lot more pressure than the Aussies. The odds on the green and gold are too good to ignore.
