2018 AFL Grand Final goal scoring guide – value odds & free tips
IT takes but one moment to etch yourself in AFL Grand Final history.
A match of football that has been slugged out for over two hours can ultimately be decided by just one kick, just one effort, just one player.
Kicking goals wins games of footy, it’s as simple as that.
For this year’s Grand Final between the Collingwood Magpies and West Coast Eagles, the competing forward lines will play a pivotal role in determining the victor.
The Magpies boast the raw talent of Jordan de Goey and Jaidyn Stephenson, while the Eagles utilise the height and accuracy of twin towers Josh Kennedy and Jack Darling.
We’ve had a look at the mouth-watering goal-scoring markets and provide our tips for the big one.

2018 Grand Final first goal scorer tips
Josh Thomas @ $19.00 – where can I find the best odds for this AFL bet?:
One of the better stories to come from Collingwood’s 2018 season, Josh Thomas was an Uber driver while serving his two year drug ban not long ago. Josh kicked the first two goals in the Semi Final against the Giants and has a happy knack of bobbing up and kicking straight early. The Grand Final is predicted to be the coldest it’s been since the 1950’s and a wet affair — conditions we think Thomas will thrive in.
Jamie Cripps @ $21.00:
Jamie Cripps has displayed solid ball skills and terrific goal sense all season long. Due to the conditions, the taller options for the Eagles will not be the best choice for first goal, which instead should be the crumbing small forwards, the role Jamie Cripps has relished in all season. Cripps knows how to play in a grand final as he was a part of the 2015 West Coast losing side. Cripps will want redemption from his last Grand Final loss.
Jaidyn Stephenson @ $19.00:
As the Bulldogs and Tigers showed in the past two Premierships, the young players are less-effected by the pressure as they have nothing to lose and long careers ahead of them. Stephenson fits the mould perfectly for a first goal-scorer. Back in round four against the Crows, there was wet conditions and a hard task ahead, but Stephenson managed to kick five goals. He’s a very clever forward that knows his way around the goals and a great choice at $19.00
Marc LeCras @ $23.00:
The most experience player out of the four tips, Marc LeCras has kicked plenty of goals throughout his career. In the twilight of his career, there comes a time where you have to step up and prove that experience is key. Marc LeCras is another Eagle that lost the Grand Final back in 2015. With that experience in the back of his mind, LeCras will want to impact the match as quickly as possible.
Most Goals betting for the 2018 Grand Final
Josh Kennedy @ $3.50:
There are only two choices for this market as it is very clear who each side will want to target inside 50. Josh Kennedy has been the main man for the Eagles since the trade back in 2007 that saw Judd to the Blues in order to secure the full forward. Kennedy has the best chance to kick the most goals as he can kick them in a plethora of different ways, whether it’s a mark on a lead or a snap at ground level, the big man is full to the brim with confidence and talent. Even in the tough conditions, it is very difficult to look past the best forward on the ground.
Jordan de Goey @ $3.60 – What are de Goey’s odds at BetEasy?:
There are two sides to every coin. If you were uncertain about Kennedy, then de Goey is your man. Jordan de Goey has kicked the most goals out of any Magpie this season, which is outstanding considering he didn’t play every game in 2018. The ideal modern forward, de Goey has the pace to escape any defender and the strength to out muscle even the strongest of key defenders, as he did last week against Richmond’s Alex Rance. Coming off a four-goal match, it could only take three goals to be the leading goal kicker on the day. A solid favourite to back.
