Winx, Chautauqua down to trial at Rosehill

Fresh from receiving confirmation she is the world’s best horse on turf, Winx is set to have another barrier trial at Rosehill.

Winx will run in a 1000m heat on Tuesday morning, her second hit-out as she embarks on a campaign to extend her winning run which sits at 13.

Trainer Chris Waller plans to run her in the Group Two Apollo Stakes at Randwick on February 11, the first of four starts during the autumn carnival with the focus on the $4 million Queen Elizabeth Stakes on April 8.

Also entered in the trial is the Hawkes-trained Divine Prophet who won last year’s Caulfield Guineas.

The champion mare’s Group One-placed stablemate Antonio Guiseppe is entered in that heat along with veteran stayer Who Shot Thebarman who ran fifth in the Melbourne Cup.

Winx was honoured at the world’s best horse awards in London last week where it was announced the Hawkes Racing-trained Chautauqua was again rated the best sprinter on the planet.

Chautauqua is set to go around in a separate trial over 900m on Tuesday alongside Group One-placed stablemate Star Turn.

Chautauqua will be out to defend his three autumn Group One crowns in the Lightning Stakes, TJ Smith Stakes and the Chairman’s Sprint Prize in Hong Kong in May.

Shock VRC Oaks winner Lasqueti Spirit is in a 1000m heat on the course proper with Waller-trained Group One winners Preferment and Grand Marshal.
