Winners keep rolling in for Darren Weir
Darren Weir is well ahead of schedule to better his Commonwealth training record of 348 winners.
Weir posted the mark last season and a treble at Sandown on Wednesday pushed him past the 150-winner mark with more than two-thirds of the season remaining.
He added a winner at Bendigo on Thursday to take his season tally to 152.
And he’s sure to add further to his tally over the next four days with 33 horses scheduled to race.
He has six runners engaged at Cranbourne on Friday night and two at the Wodonga meeting earlier in the day.
He has 10 runners at Moonee Valley on Saturday, including four in one race, and two at the provincial meeting at Yarra Glen.
Weir has three horses accepted for Sunday’s Traralgon Cup with another four horses entered for Swan Hill and six at Hamilton on Monday.
Racing.com credits Weir with having 499 named horses on his books.
His largest batch is 173 three-year-olds followed by 116 four-year-olds while he also has 82 named two-year-olds.
