Which players provide the best odds in the A-League Grand Final?

A-League 2016 Grand FinalSunday, May 1 from 4pm at Adelaide Oval, Adelaide, South Australia. Watch on Fox Sports.

AFTER one of the most bizarre and captivating seasons in recent memory, the A-League the Grand Final is finally upon us.

Adelaide United – who were anchored at the bottom of the table two months into the campaign – went on the kind of winning run that had never been seen in the competition before, snatching the Premier’s Plate in the final round.

The Wanderers looked like a safe bet to reach the Grand Final after another strong A-League season, but their semi final against the Brisbane Roar was anything but a formality.

Tony Popovic’s men had to overturn a three goal deficit to secure their Grand Final berth, and remarkably they were able to do just that, winning a nine-goal thriller in extra time to send them through to their third A-League decider in four years.

Punters who think that Western Sydney can come from behind again and win in the Grand Final can get a huge $14 return at Sportsbet.com.au on the Wanderers to fall behind but go on and win the match in regulation time.

Neither side has ever won the A-League title, however, both teams have finished runner-up twice.

Interestingly, this will be the first time the two teams have met in the A-League postseason.

Which players provide valuable odds in the A-League Grand Final?

We have taken a look at two of the competing teams’ very best players heading into Sunday’s match and selected some markets of interest heading into the decider.

These two players will play a massive role in the outcome of the Grand Final and will no doubt need to be at their very best for their respective franchises if they are to hoist the trophy at the end of the night.

Mitch Nichols – Western Sydney Wanderers

Socceroo star Mitch Nichols is our Wanderer in focus for the Grand Final, and the play-making midfielder is lucky to be available for selection after a fiery end to last week’s semi-final.

The FFA decided to charge Nichols with a code of conduct violation after he made an ‘obscene gesture’ towards the opposition fans in the aftermath of his side’s stunning come from behind win against the Brisbane Roar.

Nichols faces a suspension if found guilty, but the FFA decided that he has until the fourth of May to respond to the charge – three days after the Grand Final.

This bodes well for the Wanderers, who will have arguably the best midfielder in the A-League at their disposal.

The former Roar and Victory man has been sensational for the majority of the season, and has found the back of the net ten times this season; making him one of only two Wanderers to hit double figure goals this campaign.

For a man who is his club’s second leading goal scorer, the odds of $4.33 to score at anytime during regulation time is too hard to ignore and is our best bet of the final.

Mitch Nichols to score the first goal: $11.00

Mitch Nichols to score a goal at anytime during regulation: $4.33

Bruce Djite – Adelaide United

What a transformation the Reds’ top scorer has made since joining the club.

Many considered Djite a bust after the American born striker failed to put one past the keeper in 23 outings.

However, the 29-year-old’s remarkable turnaround has mirrored that of his club and he and the Reds now stand on the precipice of something special.

Djite is the Reds’ only player in double figures for goals this season, and he has scored 11 goals from 13 matches – the front man has also nailed the opening goal of the match twice from the last three games.

The American has found the back of the net more than once in two of his last three games, and the $14 on offer from Sportsbet.com.au for Djite to score two or more goals is the best Djite bet of the A-League Grand Final.

Bruce Djite to score the first goal: $7.50

Bruce Djite to score at anytime: $2.88

Bruce Djite to score two or more goals: $14.00
