Bottom of the AFL ladder will face top of the ladder this Sunday to close out round nine, as the West Coast Eagles host the Melbourne Demons at Optus Stadium.
It can only go up from here for the West Coast Eagles after they have lost their last four matches with an average losing margin of 82-points, as the club continues to struggle with ongoing injuries and COVID disruptions.
The reigning premiers are playing some outstanding football without losing a game yet this season, sitting the Dees comfortably at the top of the ladder with a very handy percentage.
Adam Simpson and the selection team have elected to bring in a couple of players for this match, but it may not matter who they bring in considering Nic Naitanui, Dom Sheed and Oscar Allen are still sidelined.
Melbourne Demons skipper Max Gawn was originally under an injury cloud in the lead up to this match, but his scans detected no major damage on his knee, meaning he has been cleared for take-off.
There is not much incentive for the Demons to make any changes heading into this match, as the club continues to overcome every obstacle that comes their way.
Although it is very clear the online bookmakers are favouring the Demons here, it is interesting to know the Eagles have won four of the last five matches against Melbourne.
Key matchup: Andrew Gaff vs Ed Langdon
The wingman was slowly becoming more irrelevant as footy evolved, but that has changed in the last few seasons as they are back in vogue. Ed Langdon is making a strong case to be included in the All-Australian side this season, especially after the former Docker racked up 39 disposals against the Saints last weekend.
Andrew Gaff is one of the first selected in the blue and gold given his experience and skill on the outside, but he has not been as impressive this season. Gaff needs to step up this week and not allow Langdon to get off the chain, as he is extremely dangerous with his run-and-carry on the outside.
West Coast Eagles vs Melbourne Demons betting tips
West Coast Eagles +59.5
We will be tipping the Demons to win this match with relative ease, but the handicap seems to be pushing slightly too far out considering who the Eagles are fielding this week. Tom Barrass and Jeremy McGovern are still in the back six, while Josh Kennedy, Jack Darling and Liam Ryan are all available up forward. The spine from the 2018 premiership is still intact for the Eagles, so they should put up a decent fight on their home deck.
West Coast Eagles +59.5
Jack Darling to kick 2+ goals
It has been a very long time since Jack Darling was paying such long odds to kick just a pair of goals, and we think the 243-game veteran can easily hit that mark this week. All Darling needs is a handful of inside 50s to head in his direction, as he still knows how to kick an accurate set shot. Darling has not been his best in 2022, but he enjoys playing against the Demons and could turn his luck around this weekend.

Gold Coast vs Fremantle Same game multi tips
A multiple-goal effort from Jack Darling will help the valiant Eagles stay within the 10-goal handicap this Sunday, while Ed Langdon will own the wing and get plenty of disposals for the Dees.
West Coast +59.5 / Darling 2+ goals / Langdon 25+ disposals
