Weir has three shots at Australasian Oaks

Leading trainer Darren Weir has three strong chances as he bids for a second Australasian Oaks in Adelaide.

Sopressa and Pleasuring, who both had their last starts in Adelaide, will be joined by Flemington winner Think Bleue in the 2000m Group One race for three-year-old fillies at Morphettville on Saturday.

Think Bleue scored over 1720m last Wednesday, her first start in almost five weeks.

Weir said the filly had been given an easy time at his Warrnambool beachside stable following her success in the Group Three Alexandra Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley on March 23.

“After Moonee Valley she went to the beach and had an easy 10 days,” Weir said.

“That let her fill up in condition a bit.

“The run will bring her on a bit and all she needs is a good week and she’ll present in good shape.

“I think she’s a good enough filly and she showed that at Moonee Valley.

“She’s very sound and very straightforward.”

Weir was loath to separate his trio saying the barrier draw would have a bearing on the result.

Sopressa won the Group Three Auraria Stakes at Morphettville on April 21 with Pleasuring fourth.

“I think if you swap the barriers, you swap the result, so that evens them up,” Weir said.

“And Think Bleue is similar to them, so I think it will all come down to barriers.

“There’ll probably be horses as good as them in the race so it will come down to which one gets the good run.”

Sopressa shares the top line in Oaks betting at $5.50 with last-start Caulfield winner, the Chris Waller-trained Savacool.

Think Bleue sits on the second line with Aloisia at $6 while Pleasuring is at $13.

Waller and Weir finished one-two in the race last year when the Waller-trained Egg Tart beat Kenedna.

Weir won the race in 2014 with May’s Dream.

He said Harry Coffey, Damian Lane and John Allen would ride the three fillies.

“I just haven’t worked out who will be riding which one as yet,” he said.
