US Open multi tips for Thursday, September 1 matches

THE first serves have been fired in the final grand slam of the year and this is the perfect time to have a big multi on the early rounds.

We turn our attention to the early Thursday morning clashes, with the likes of Rafael Nadal, Garbine Muguruza and Marin Cilic in action.

Here’s our stab at an eight legger, with a little bonus one on the offing.

Suggested Multi for US Open for Thursday, September 1 (AEST):

Marin Cilic to beat Sergiy Stakhovsky ($8.50) – $1.05

Rafael Nadal to beat Andreas Seppi ($8.50) – $1.05

John Isner to beat Steve Darcis ($5.40) – $1.13

Gael Monfils to beat Jan Satral ($13) – 1.01

Marcos Baghdatis to beat Benoit Paire ($2.97) – $1.36

Angelique Kerber to beat Mirjana Lucic-Baroni ($6.50) – $1.09

Petra Kvitova to beat Cagla Buyukakcay ($6) – $1.10

Garbine Muguruza to beat Anastasija Sevastova ($6.05) – 1.13

Combined multi pays $2.31 with Sportsbet.com.au

Marin Cilic to beat Sergiy Stakhovsky ($8.50) – $1.05

Thursday, September 1 from 7am (AEST)

The 2014 US Open winner breezed into the second round with an easy straight sets win over Brazilian Rogerio Dutra Silva and we can’t see the world number 148 giving him in any problems in the second round.

Rafael Nadal to beat Andreas Seppi ($8.50) – $1.05

Thursday, September 1 from 10am (AEST)

Like Cilic, Rafa was clinical in his first round win over Uzbek Denis Isthmian and, while Seppi does have more chops than his previous opponent, Nadal should be able to make it past him with relative ease.

John Isner to beat Steve Darcis ($5.40) – $1.13

Thursday, September 1 from 2am (AEST)

Big serving John Isner has had a solid build up to the US Open with a finals appearance at the Atlanta Open, where he was beaten by Aussie Nick Kyrgios. He did have dramas getting past US compatriot Frances Tiafoe – outlasting him in a fire set dog fight, and he’s had a red hot crack at NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick’s protest against the national anthem so he will want a good showing against Steve Darcis.

Gael Monfils to beat Jan Satral ($13) – 1.01

Thursday, September 1 from 5am (AEST)

These two men have never played each other and it’s not hard to see why. The Frenchman Monfils has won nearly $1.8 million in prize money. Czech Satral has won about $2500. This one could get very ugly if the world number 12 is on point.

Marcos Baghdatis to beat Benoit Paire ($2.97) – $1.36

Thursday, September 1 from 2am (AEST)

A favourite of the Australian public after his memorable Australian Open run many years back, Marcos Baghdatis is actually ranked lower than French man Benoit Paire. But that is due to lack of action more than anything and, on the grand slam stage, Baghdatis has the chops to take this one out – and plus, we need something a little longer to help out odds.

Angelique Kerber to beat Mirjana Lucic-Baroni ($6.50) – $1.09

Thursday, September 1 from 5am (AEST)

World number two Angelique Kerber is a fearsome force on the tennis court. Mirjana Lucic-Barone is way out at number 57 and it would take a massive boilover for her to event get close to the gun German, whose best finish at the US Open was surprisingly way back in 2011, when she was bundled out in the semi finals. Any way, she’s on track to go deep here once again and Lucic-Baroni should only provide nuisance value.

Petra Kvitova to beat Cagla Buyukakcay ($6) – $1.10

Thursday, September 1 from 1am (AEST)

If you can pronounce her surname, you’re better than us, but this little-known Turk has actually won eight singles titles. Ranked number 66 in the world, she has her work cut out for her up against the number 16 ranked Petra Kvitova. She disposed of Jelena Ostapenko in straight sets and, while this is tougher, it’s hard to see her being challenged.

Garbine Muguruza to beat Anastasija Sevastova ($6.05) – 1.13

Thursday, September 1 from 8am (AEST)

Venezuelan Garbine Muguruza is one of the best female tennis players on the planet, as her world ranking of number three would attest. She has never played Anastasija Sevastova and, with a world ranking of number 48, she has probably never heard of her, either. Ok, that’s a bit harsh, but we’re not expecting the Latvian to put up much of a fight against the heir apparent to Venus Williams. Muguruza claimed this year’s French Open in stunning fashion and is among the favourites to claim her second grand slam title at Flushing Meadow.

Caroline Wozniacki to beat Svetlana Kuznetsova ($1.40) – $2.82

Thursday, September 1 from 2am (AEST)

If you want to find some value in the early rounds, you need to think outside the square. For all intents and purposes, this match up should be a walk in the park for Svetlana Kuznetsova, who has won both the US Open and French Open previously. But Wozniacki is a former World Number One – a title she held for 67 weeks – but has struggled to re discover that stunning form. But, at just 26, we all know what she is capable of and that makes her dangerous, even against the 10th ranked Russian. This pair has played each other 12 times and their results are split down the middle, six all. This one has the makings of a classic.
