UK punters to bet into Hong Kong pools
British punters will be able to bet into the Hong Kong tote pools with an agreement reached between the Hong Kong Jockey Club and UK Tote.
The Hong Kong parimutuel tote pools are the largest in the world.
The agreement means betting shops and online operators including Betfred, Coral and Ladbrokes will also accept bets starting with Wednesday’s meeting at Happy Valley which will be broadcast to UK audiences.
“Given its tremendous legacy in the sport of horse racing, it is a great pleasure to welcome the UK to our expanding list of commingling jurisdictions,” HKJC executive director, customer and marketing, Richard Cheung said.
“There are a great number of former British horses racing in Hong Kong and with an average field size of over 12 horses per race combined with tremendous liquidity in our pools, there is no doubt our races will be very attractive to UK racing fans.”
The HKJC said it anticipated agreements with more UK operators to be finalised in the coming months.
