Sodiq Yusuff (13-2-0) has built a near-flawless 6-1 record since making his UFC debut in 2018. The only blemish was a close decision loss to Arnold Allen, but the Nigerian immediately bounced back from the disappointment with a pair of solid wins. This run of success has seen Yusuff earn a top-15 ranking, and at age 30, he is well placed to demonstrate his contender credentials.
Yusuff is primarily a stand-up striker, but he scored his maiden submission win in his most recent appearance versus Don Shainis within the opening seconds of the bout. This illustrates the improvement still being made in his game as he prepares for the range of dangerous opponents that wait higher up the featherweight rankings.
Edson Barboza (23-11-0) has enjoyed a long and fruitful career and boasts one of the most impressive knockouts in UFC history, a spinning back-kick that felled Terry Etim back in 2014. The 37-year-old is now nearing the end of his time as a professional mixed martial artist but remains a threat to any man standing opposite.
Barboza has slowed slightly in recent times and has produced three wins and five losses since 2019. The Brazilian has faced tough competition throughout his UFC career, sharing the cage with the likes of Khabib Nurmagomedov and Justin Gaethje back in his younger days, and will have an obvious experience edge here.

This appears to be a favourable match-up for the fresher Yusuff, but he will need to overcome his height and reach disadvantage. Despite his advanced years, Barboza is still capable of springing a surprise and landing a knockout blow if the opportunity arises. The underdog still has an excellent arsenal of kicks that must be blocked or avoided if the bookmaker favourite is to prevail.
That said, we are sticking with Yusuff, who is still improving and might emerge as an elite featherweight one day.
