Top tweets from Roosters vs. Bulldogs NRL Thursday

NRL twitter
SYDNEY Roosters made it two from two on Thursday night, seeing off a second-half charge from Canterbury to win 28-24.

There was drama both on and off the field at the Allianz, and the Twitterverse was all over it.

Roosters go top of the pops

A perfect start for Sydney puts them top of the 2017 NRL table, at least until the seven other teams that won in round one get a chance to add to their tallies.

It took nine rounds for the Roosters to register two wins in 2016, so things are definitely looking up for a side that has moved into +700 Premiership contention at Sportsbet.com.au.

Given Penrith’s surprisingly sluggish start, the Tricolours may well fancy themselves to make it three from three when they head west to Pepper Stadium next week – especially if they keep making plays like this:

Luke Keary steals the show

He was something of an unheralded off-season acquisition, but Luke Keary is already shaping up as one of the trades of the year.

The former Rabbitoh was excellent in tandem with Mitchell Pearce in last week’s win over Gold Coast, and the two halves were involved in just about everything that went right for Sydney on Thursday night – including this screamer from Daniel Tupou:

Two tries, three assists and a man of the match award in two outings is fair going for a guy who South Sydney were quite happy to get rid of.

Brawlin’ in the terraces

The Bulldogs confirmed on Friday that Will Hopoate suffered a concussion, but he wasn’t the only one reeling from a heavy knock.

The lowlight of the night (or the highlight, depending on your perspective) came from the members’ stand, where a massive brawl erupted during the second half.

The kerfuffle broke out right in front of the Channel Nine commentary box, giving Gus Gould and Ray Warren an ideal vantage point for a blow-by-blow account.

Observers could not help but wonder if the incident would enjoy a greater level of exposure if it had occurred during a Sydney FC vs. Wanderers A-League derby.

Given the noted lack of coverage from established media outlets on Twitter in the aftermath, the punters might be onto something.
