Top outright odds & predictions for Premier League 2017-18

English Premier League 2017-18 futures
THE English Premier League returns on August 11, 2017, which means now is the perfect time to start sizing up the outright betting.

As ever, the summer transfer window has caused some significant shifts in the futures markets.

Who will take out the title and who will suffer the drop? Which players will star and which will flop?

These are our top tips for the 2017-18 Premier League season, with best odds from the web’s most trusted soccer betting sites.

Manchester City to win the title

+180 at CrownBet.com.au

Pep Guardiola will probably get the sack if Manchester City don’t win the title this year.

The club has spent over £200 million in transfers this off-season, the bulk of it on new full-backs.

Even more exciting than the arrivals of Benjamin Mendy, Bernardo Silva, et al is the prospect of an uninterrupted campaign for Gabriel Jesus – perhaps the most impressive talent in world football right now.

We saw last season how dramatically things can change in the space of a few weeks, so none of the top six can be written off altogether.

Chelsea should be strong again, Liverpool are dangerous despite their inconsistencies and Manchester United have to be better this time around.

Much could rest on the City defence and whether the likes of Claudio Bravo and John Stones have learned from last term’s missteps.

But the depth of quality at Guardiola’s disposal is such that he could just about field two separate sides and claim the quinella.

Tottenham to finish outside top four

+110 at Bet365.com.au

What have Spurs achieved in the European summer?

They let Kyle Walker go to City – that’s about it.

Mauricio Pochettino’s squad has had a nice, stable balance to it over the past two years, but can Tottenham afford to sit on their laurels while other teams are pumping in fresh blood?

With Man United tipped to improve considerably on last season’s mediocrity, it looks like Arsenal, Liverpool and Spurs could be fighting over fourth place.

The bookies might disagree, but we think there is an even chance that any one of those three will win the war.

The Lilywhites – who will play home games at Wembley this season – are paying the best odds, so that is where our money is.

To miss the top four

-125 – Liverpool

-111.11 – Arsenal

+110 – Tottenham

+250 – Chelsea, Man United

+350 – Man City

Crystal Palace to be relegated

+450 at CrownBet.com.au

It is easy to forget just how close Crystal Palace came to disaster last season.

Some late heroics kept them seven points clear of the drop, but it was all downhill before that.

Now Sam Allardyce is gone, with Frank de Boer taking over the reins at Selhurst Park.

The Dutchman arrives on the back of a horror stint at Internazionale, where he lasted only 14 games as head coach.

Why they appointed him in the first place remains something of a mystery, as De Boer had failed to deliver any silverware in his last two years at Ajax.

One suspects Palace’s hopes may rest with star forwards Christian Benteke and Wilfried Zaha.

Should anything happen to either of them – injury, transfer, whatever – the Eagles could be in real strife.

Gabriel Jesus for Player of the Year

+1600 at Ladbrokes.com.au

This guy is the big reason to watch Man City this season.

We only caught a glimpse of him last term after a nasty foot injury sidelined him for several months, but what we saw from the Brazilian prodigy was simply breathtaking.

Gabriel is a readymade Premier League footballer who works hard, runs fast, bamboozles opponents and scores goals – lots of goals.

Bookies have seen enough to group him in the same class as genuine POTY contenders such as Philippe Coutinho, Kevin de Bruyne and Alexis Sanchez.

If you think that level of competition is a bit too stiff, Jesus is paying +550 at Sportsbet to win the Young Player of the Year award.

He is also rated a +900 chance to finish the season as the league’s top goalscorer.

Harry Kane for top goalscorer

+300 at Sportsbet

The Premier League Golden Boot is shaping up as a three-way tussle between Sergio Aguero, Harry Kane and Romelu Lukaku.

We all know how good Aguero is, but can he go through a season without suffering a series of niggling injuries?

There is also a chance the City striker could lose his starting slot (read Gabriel Jesus).

While Lukaku has improved year on year since moving to Everton in 2014, leading the line for Man United is another matter entirely.

The big Belgian was the absolute focal point at Goodison Park, so will he be as deadly in a team where he is not the only superstar?

For our money, Kane is without doubt the man to beat.

Whether on the ball or lurking at the back post, he finds a way to get involved every time Spurs go forward.

There is no better finisher in the EPL right now, as evinced by his back-to-back Golden Boot wins.

Why not get on him for the hat-trick?
