Tony Gollan reaches 100 winners
Trainer Tony Gollan has brought up his 100th winner for the season with She’s Our Star scoring an overdue win at Doomben.
She’s Our Star ($5.50) got the run of the race from barrier one before bursting clear in the straight to beat Excelebrazione ($19) in Saturday’s Caltex 2YO (1110m).
Gollan was due to arrive home from an overseas holiday late on Saturday and will have some good news on his touchdown.
Among his 100 winners are seven in NSW.
Gollan, who is a long way in front in his defence of the metropolitan premiership, planned to make an all-out attack on the last part of the season.
He won earlier with Khalama but She’s Our Star would have been a special win.
Stable foreman Hollie Williams said a lot of work had gone into She’s Our Star to get her to settle in her races.
“She has been going too hard but racing well in stronger races than this. Tony has always had a big opinion of her and he will be very pleased she has won,” Williams said.
Winning jockey Jim Byrne said She’s Our Star had got the run of the race behind a hot early pace.
“When I could get cover and she relaxed early I was always going to be hard to beat,” Byrne said.
