Titans vs Broncos Betting Preview
We all love a derby game in the NRL, and in recent times this all-Queensland matchup has seen the Gold Coast Titans win four of the last six against their big brother. Justin Holbrook’s men were disappointing against the Warriors last week, but it may take them some time to click as they bring in new stars.
The Brisbane Broncos showed against Parramatta before the injuries kicked in that they will be much more competitive in 2021. There was nothing flash or revolutionary about their first-round performance, but they appeared a much happier club and fought right to the death, whereas last year they turned their toes up at any moment. Expect this clash to go down to the wire.
Key matchup: David Fifita vs Brodie Croft
David Fifita was seen as the future of the Broncos before he decided to take the big money on offer at the Titans. After a disappointing debut, the prospect of playing against his old teammates will fire him up. He will be running all night at Brodie Croft, who is one of the competition’s biggest ‘spot defenders’, and it will cause big problems for the Broncos. If the Titans put Fifita in space with time, he could win this game on his own.

It was hard to gauge the Titans as an offensive unit last week, and it could take another month before we really see where their strengths are. The aforementioned Fifita shapes as a great anytime tryscorer option, but we like AJ Brimson to score the first. His blistering speed is hard to handle, and a shaky defensive line still learning to defend together like Brisbane are spells trouble.

Xavier Coates was having a blinder before he injured himself last week, showing why his $41 price in the NRL 2021 top tryscorer betting was well worth a punt. But if he doesn’t take his place in the 17, who can you count on crossing the white line for Brisbane? Herbie Farnworth might be the place to look with Brian Kelly ruled out due to injury. He has a good left fend and can offload, making it a difficult assignment for whoever replaces Kelly.
Brisbane Broncos

- Herbie Farnworth
- Tesi Niu
- David Mead
- Anthony Milford
- Brodie Croft
- Tevita Pangai Junior
- Jake Turpin

- John Asiata
- Thomas Flegler
- Ethan Bullemor

Titans vs Broncos betting prediction
Brisbane played on emotion for a lot of their round-one loss, and it kept them in the game far longer than it should have, but you can’t expect to win like that in the NRL on a week-to-week basis. The Titans by 1-12 at $2.75 with top NRL bookmakers will be the way to go. They won’t blow the Broncos off the park, but they have the better defence given Brisbane will be without Matt Lodge and possibly John Asiata in the middle.
Gold Coast Titans by 1-12 points
