Tigers youngster Lalor injured, as Eagles win pre-season clash
Richmond has suffered a blow with no.1 draft pick Sam Lalor suffering a concussion in their AFL pre-season clash against West Coast on Monday.
The powerfully built “Dustin Martin clone” was impressive in his yellow and black debut, booting two goals, but he will now miss next Wednesday’s official pre-season hit-out against Collingwood and is in doubt for the Tigers’ round 1 clash against Carlton on March 13.
The heavy collision with Eagles SSP hopeful Sandy Brock has seen the young gun ease in Rising Star betting, moving from $8 out to $15.
Lalor was pushed by bulked-up Eagle Rueben Ginbey into the contest, with commentator Matthew Lloyd calling for the incident to be looked at by the match review officer.
Richmond head of development Sam Lonergan said he was confident Lalor would be fit to take on the Blues in round 1 AFL action.
“He’s got a sore jaw at the moment so he’s currently in concussion protocols,” he said
“He was great today. He played a little bit forward and through the midfield today and contributed in both areas which was fantastic.”
With the Eagles running out 36 point winners over the Tigers, Adem Yze’s men have plenty of work to do, prior to their first home and away match.
The Tigers are a $1.45 favourite to claim the wooden-spoon, following an exodus of experienced players, including Shai Bolton, Liam Baker and Jack Graham.
The Eagles were coached by Andrew McQualter for the first time and played a significantly different style of football, with frantic and at times chaotic ball movement.
