Tigers v Eels R27 preview
The Wests Tigers and Parramatta Eels face off in the ‘Spoon Bowl’ this Friday night in Campbelltown, bringing down the curtain on their disappointing NRL 2024 campaigns.
Despite sitting last on the ladder, the Tigers enter round 27 on a run of two consecutive victories before their bye last weekend. In round 25, they produced their most impressive win of the season, beating the Sea Eagles by eight points.
However, Wests hold the worst attacking and defensive records in the NRL this season, so it is no surprise to see them enter this match as underdogs at $2.25 with Bet365.
There is just one change for Benji Marshall’s side this week as winger Solomon Alaimalo misses due to concussion protocols. Josh Feledy comes in at centre, pushing Junior Tupou out to the wing, while halfback Aidan Sezer has been named despite suffering a shoulder injury against Manly.
Parramatta also won last time out, beating the Dragons by four points at home in round 26. In an incredibly high-scoring affair, the Eels led by 32 points with 11 minutes to go but conceded five tries in the last 11 minutes — a snapshot of their poor defensive efforts this season.
That win ended a run of three consecutive losses for the Eels. Although they share the worst defensive record in the NRL, Parra have a superior attack compared to Wests and enter this clash as $1.67 favourites with Neds.
Eels second-rower Kelma Tuilagi and winger Sean Russell return to the side this week. This moves Shaun Lane to prop and Ofahiki Ogden to the bench, while Jake Tago and Dan Keir make way.

Tigers v Eels match predictions
This is a tough match to pick. The Tigers are in slightly better form, but this Eels side still has plenty of quality despite the club’s recent struggles. Each of the last four matches between these sides has been decided by less than eight points, so one of the safer bets is to back the Tigers with the start of +3.5 points at $1.91 with major NRL bookies.
With the defensive struggles of both these sides, expect another shootout. Each of the last four Eels matches have gone over the total points line, as have three of the last four Tigers games. At $1.90 with top Australian betting sites, back this one to go over 53.5 points.
Parramatta captain Clint Gutherson loves playing against the Tigers, scoring in five of their last six meetings. Although the fullback has had a quiet year, he has scored five tries in his last five matches — including a double against the Dragons. As an anytime tryscorer, Gutherson offers great value at $2.20 with leading online bookmakers.
