Round 6: Tigers v Dragons match preview
Super Sunday football for round six of the 2024 NRL season kicks off in Campbelltown with the Wests Tigers hosting the St George Illawarra Dragons at Campbelltown Stadium.
Both side have two wins to start the year; the Tigers beat the Sharks and Eels, while the Dragons downed the Titans and Sea Eagles. Wests have been the far more impressive side in the early weeks of the season, but can they secure a win without their teenage sensation Lachlan Galvin?
Dragons coach Shane Flanagan welcomes back off-season recruit Hame Sele to the starting side along with Tom Eisenhuth. That pushes Blake Lawrie and Jack De Belin to the interchange, with Michael Molo dropping to the reserves.
The Tigers have also made a few changes to his starting side. Alex Seyfarth replaces John Bateman (concussion) in the back row, while Jake Simpkin and Justin Matamua come onto the bench for Latu Fainu (hamstring) and Samuela Fainu (concussion).

Wests Tigers v SGI Dragons betting strategy
The Dragons have covered the line in each of their last four away matches following a loss, while the Tigers have lost each of their last eight matches at this stadium. However, the home side is very different to previous seasons. With experience in the spine and a strong forward pack under coach Benji Marshall, Wests should be able to buck the trend and cover the -1.5 handicap at $1.90 with top NRL bookmakers.
Justin Olam’s has started brilliantly with the Tigers, scoring three tries in as many matches with eight tackle breaks and three line breaks. He has also scored in each of his last five appearances against opponents ranked in the bottom four on the NRL ladder. Punter will find great value in the $2.80 price for Olam to score a try at any time.
Wests Tigers winger Charlie Staines has had a slower start to the 2024 season than he would have liked, with just four tackle breaks and two line breaks without scoring a try. However, he has improved immeasurably at contact when carrying the football and still possesses the pace that earned him his nickname, the ‘Forbes Ferrari’. Staines will be facing the much slower and less agile Mikaele Ravalawa, and if Wests can get their attacking structure correct, Staines should cross to score at some stage ($2.40).
