Things finally go right for Ahndras

Australian Oaks-bound filly Ahndras has had to overcome problems before and during the race ahead of her tough win at Doomben.

The start of Saturday’s Three-Year-Old Hcp (1600m) was held up seven minutes while Ahndras was replated and then she was under a lot of pressure at the 600m.

But Ahndras ($2.70) responded to hard riding from Jeff Lloyd to wear down the leader Don’t Doubt Da Wife ($9.

Stable foreman for Toby Edmonds, Trent Edmonds said Ahndras would now spend a few days at his father’s Gold Coast hinterland property before a decision was made on a trip to Sydney for the Oaks.

“Ahndras’s dam is a half sister to the smart sprinter Charge Forward but she’s a big strong filly and we think she will get a middle distance,” Edmonds said.

‘We were worried at the 600 metres but she responded like she did when she won a maiden here and just kept coming.”

“The winner got a cheap first 1000 metres and not many get run down over a mile when they can lead out in 64 seconds.”

Lloyd said the filly would run a solid middle distance and was looking for 2000m to 2400m.

“She just does enough but she has plenty of talent,” Lloyd said..
