Taylor Marshall starts Brisbane stint

Apprentice Taylor Marshall has six rides at Doomben to start a new phase of his career in Brisbane.

Marshall, the son of former star jockey John Marshall, has joined trainer Lawrie Mayfield-Smith at Eagle Farm.

He started his career in Sydney but has most recently been riding in Victoria.

He will be in Brisbane until at least the end of the year when his apprenticeship is due to finish.

Marshall has had a stop-start career after hitting the headlines when he rode four winners on his first day of city racing at Rosehill in May 2014.

He has ridden 131 winners with 31 in the city and also had a stint with Johnny Murtagh in Ireland.

Mayfield Smith believes Marshall is an ideal apprentice for Brisbane.

“He is a very experienced rider who can get down as low as 50 kilograms. With a two kilo claim he should be in much demand,” Mayfield Smith said.

Among Marshall’s mounts is Wigglesworth for his new boss.
