Olympic silver medalist and 2021 World Title runner-up Tatiana Weston-Webb (BRA) has officially announced that she will step away from the remainder of the World Surf League (WSL) 2025 Championship Tour (CT) to focus on her personal well-being.

“This has not been an easy time for me. I am incredibly grateful for everything I have achieved in surfing so far, and for the support I have always received from my sponsors, team, and fans. Every achievement has been the result of intense and collective effort. Recently, I realised that I needed to pay closer attention to my emotional health.”

“As an athlete, I have always been passionate about what I do, but I also know that taking care of my well-being is essential to honouring my passion and continuing to compete at a high level. The emotional and physical exhaustion I have felt lately were clear signs that it was time to pause and reconnect with myself,” said Weston-Webb.”

“Talking about mental health in sports is something I believe is important for all of us,” she continued.

“I want to be honest with those who follow and support me by acknowledging that showing vulnerability does not make us weaker; on the contrary, it makes us more human and connected, and it also allows us to reach our full potential both in and out of competition. This break is not an end, but a new beginning. I know that with everyone’s support, I will return to the water stronger, more self-aware, and more passionate than ever.”

The WSL has expressed its full support for Weston-Webb’s decision and awaits her eventual return to competition when she feels ready.

“Tatiana’s well-being comes first, and we admire her openness in prioritising her health,” said WSL Commissioner Jessi Miley-Dyer.

“Tati is one of the most dynamic and accomplished surfers of her generation. We know fans around the world will continue to support her on her journey, and we wish her all the best during this time.”

Weston-Webb has competed at surfing’s highest level for nearly a decade, following a standout junior career that saw her named the 2015 Rookie of the Year and Qualifying Series Champion.

Her professional resume includes numerous elite accomplishments, including appearances at both the Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Olympic Games as part of Team Brazil.

Among her most notable career highlights are a silver medal at the 2024 Olympics, a runner-up finish at the 2021 WSL Finals, a gold medal at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, four CT event wins from 12 final appearances, two ISA World Junior Gold Medals, and a perfect 10 at Teahupo’o, Tahiti—one of the defining moments of her career.

The 28-year-old has finished in the WSL’s top five in five separate seasons, including a World No. 3 ranking in 2024.

With Nadia Erostarbe (ESP), the 2025 WSL Replacement Surfer, already subbing in for Johanne Defay (FRA) in events leading up to the Mid-season Cut, Weston-Webb’s absence will open up an additional spot at each stop, which will be filled by an event wildcard.
