Sydney Swans vs Port Adelaide match preview
The Sydney Swans will be hoping to get back to winning ways when they host a revitalised Port Adelaide outfit at the SCG on Easter Sunday.
In a replay of their 2024 preliminary final clash, Sydney enter as favourites on their home deck at $1.47 with leading AFL bookmakers. Port are at $2.70, while the line is at 14.5 points.
The Swans were soundly beaten last Friday night as they fell to Collingwood by 31 points. After a close first quarter, the Magpies were far too strong as they picked through the Sydney defence.
At 2-3, it has not been an ideal start to the season for the 2024 grand finalists. However, their three losses have all come against genuine premiership contenders. Dean Cox’s side are playing their first home game since Round 1, and with an improving injury list, they should be optimistic about this clash.
On the other hand, Port Adelaide delivered one of the most shocking performances of the season last Sunday, beating the previously undefeated Hawthorn by 30 points at Adelaide Oval. Despite coming in as major underdogs, Ken Hinkley’s side blew the visitors out of the water early, extending the lead out to as far as 71 points in the second term.
It was a much-needed win for the Power, who now move to 11th on the AFL ladder with a record of 2-3. However, top Australian bookies are still not convinced by them, giving them odds of $4 to make the top eight.
Sydney Swans vs Port Adelaide team news
The Swans are set to welcome back key defender Lewis Melican and midfielder Justin McInerney this week. However, they have lost key forward Joel Amartey for the next month with a hamstring injury. This could result in a return to the forward line for Tom McCartin.

Port Adelaide small forward Darcy Byrne-Jones looks set to return from suspension, leaving the likes of Tom Cochrane and Joe Berry at risk of omission. Half-back Miles Bergman was cleared of any knee damage despite being subbed off against the Hawks.
Sydney Swans vs Port Adelaide prediction
Despite coming off a loss last Friday, the Swans should be confident of turning their form around. They held a record of 11-2 at the SCG in 2024 and still have plenty of quality throughout their side despite their long injury list. While Port’s performance against the Hawks was impressive, it may have been a one-off, so back the Swans to win by less than 40 points at $2.15 with BetOnline.
Chad Warner was kept goalless last weekend, but the Sydney midfielder could be a danger inside 50 in this clash. He has kicked multiple goals on three occasions already this season, while he also scored two majors in the preliminary final last year. At $2.02 with BetOnline, Warner offers great value to kick two or more once again.
Port Adelaide veteran Travis Boak has turned back the clock in 2025, averaging 23.5 disposals per game. With worries around his role with the return of Zak Butters in the midfield, Boak still collected 20 touches last Sunday playing a more defensive role. The $2.20 on offer with BetOnline is good value for Boak to hit that number again.
