Sixers vs Stars match preview
The Big Bash League continues on Friday as the top-of-the-ladder Sydney Sixers welcome the Brisbane Heat to Coffs Harbour.
The Sixers are coming off their first loss of the tournament, after they lost to the Hobart Hurricanes by 50 runs on New Years Day. Veteran pace bowler Jackson Bird took 4/16, but the positives ended there, as they collapsed to just 111 with the bat.
The Sydney side still remain a game clear at the top of the ladder and are betting favourites to lift the trophy at +275 with leading BBL bookmakers.
After suffering the unexpected loss, don’t expect many changes to the side.
The Heat also suffered defeat on New Year’s Day, handing the Stars their first win of the season by five wickets.
After a top-order collapse, Max Bryant’s 77* off 48 balls salvaged a modest total of 149. With the ball, Xavier Bartlett was a standout, taking 4/10, but the rest of the bowlers struggled as they ultimately didn’t have enough to defend.
After winning their first two games of the tournament, Brisbane have now lost their last three matches to slip down to sixth on the ladder. At +700 with top betting apps, the Heat are outsiders for the tournament.
In some positive news, the Heat may regain star all-rounder Michael Neser for his first game of the tournament after recovering from a hamstring injury.
Sixers vs Stars predictions
Given the Sixers comfortably beat the Heat when they met at the Gabba last Sunday, expect a similar result in this clash. Despite their recent loss, they are top of the table for a reason, while Brisbane are sliding down the ladder. At -133.33 with major cricket betting sites, take the home side to get back to winning ways.
Leading the BBL with 10 wickets this season, Sixers fast bowler Ben Dwarshius has been in excellent wicket-taking form. Prior to their last game, Dwarshius had taken multiple wickets in every game this season, including 4/32 against the Heat. At +125 with Marantelli Bet back him to continue the trend, taking two or more wickets once again.
Another fast bowler having an excellent tournament is Xavier Bartlett. The Brisbane star has taken nine wickets for the season, led by his 4/10 against the Stars. Last time these sides met, Bartlett was by far the most impressive with the ball, so back Bartlett to lead the Heat bowlers once at the value price of +375 with Marantelli Bet.
