Sydney jockey COVID test returns negative

A NSW metropolitan jockey who was sent for COVID-19 testing after displaying flu like symptoms has tested negative to the virus, Racing NSW’s chief steward has confirmed.

The jockey last competed at Saturday’s Rosehill meeting and was sent for testing on Tuesday morning after showing flu like symptoms.

It prompted Racing NSW stewards to take the precaution and also stand down a number of other jockeys from competing at Gosford on Tuesday, pending the result of the jockey’s test, because they had also been competing in the metropolitan group of riders including at Saturday’s Rosehill meeting.

“We had a test performed on the jockey with the flu like symptoms and that has come back negative to COVID,” Racing NSW chief steward Marc Van Gestel said.

“So all the protocols that were in place previously are back in place and apart from the jockey changes at Gosford today, there’s no other change.”

Racing continues at Randwick’s Kensington track on Wednesday with a seven-race program.
