The final match of the BBL for 2022 takes place again at Adelaide Oval where the Strikers are hosting the Melbourne Stars.

The Thunder are coming off two wins in a row over the Brisbane Heat, while the Stars are looking to bounce back from two losses to the Scorchers and a loss to the Sixers.

Adelaide will be buoyed by the return to their home ground in what is becoming a traditional fixture on the BBL calendar and looking to return to the summit of the BBL 12 ladder.

Meanwhile, the Stars are fighting to get off the bottom of the table with the Heat to push towards the finals.

The return to Adelaide Oval for the Strikers will no doubt see Matt Short, Henry Thornton and Rashid Khan return to their best form. These two sides are yet to meet in BBL12 and based on form alone it is hard to make a case that the Stars can beat the Strikers.

The Strikers have been one of the best sides in this competition and they’re great value to win at home paying $1.67.

Hot, sunny conditions are predicted for Adelaide at a ground where conditions often favour the batters. Short will continue to open the batting and continue his form that has seen him rise to the top of the run scorers list in the BBL. Short’s height, wingspan and footwork makes him almost impossible to bowl to as he can play shots all around the ground. Look for Short to clear the boundary multiple times and become the highest run scorer for the Strikers paying $3.50.

Henry Thornton has taken the BBL by storm this season, most notably when the Strikers bowled the Thunder out for a record-low 15 runs. Thornton is a fast bowler with unbridled pace and bounce that can surprise batters and make scoring runs difficult on a typically excellent batting surface. Look for Thornton to spearhead the Strikers attack, leading them to victory by taking 3+ wickets in the match paying $4.25.

Key matchup: Henry Thornton vs Joe Clarke

The clash between Thornton and Clarke at the top of the order between these two sides will likely be one of the best in the tournament. Clarke is the form batter of the BBL currently leading the run scoring tally for the competition, while Thornton has surprised so many this summer in the BBL. Clarke has the all-round scoring ability and talent to counter the extra pace and bounce that Thornton will be able to extract from this Adelaide pitch but is as susceptible as anyone to edging deliveries to the keeper that are bowled in typically good ‘test match’ type areas. Whoever wins this clash at the top of the innings will give their side the best opportunity to win this match.
