Storm vs Rabbitohs NRL Round 8 preview

ANZAC Day football wraps up for round eight of the 2024 NRL Premiership on Thursday night with the Melbourne Storm hosting the struggling Rabbitohs at AAMI Park.

The South Sydney Rabbitohs have had a horrendous run of injuries to start the season, losing five of their first six matches. Their only win came in round four against the Bulldogs, who played for 10 minutes with 12 men.

The Melbourne Storm have had a brilliant start to the year with five wins from six matches, including victories over both of last year’s grand finalists — the Broncos and Panthers.

While the Storm have named an unchanged side, the Bunnies have three big inclusions in the forward pack with Damien Cook returning at hooker, Cameron Murray starting at lock, and Jai Arrow back via the bench after a shoulder injury. Tevita Tatola (foot) and Tyrone Munro (collarbone) are both out injured, with Jacob Gagai starting on the wing.

Storm vs Rabbitohs Rd 8 betting predictions

The Storm have won three of their last five matches against the Rabbitohs, with two of those wins taking place at AAMI Park. Melbourne have also won each of their last 13 matches at home, while the Rabbitohs have lost both halves in six of their last eight games. The Storm love starting matches strongly and should go on to win this one by 13 or more points ($1.82).

Storm fullback Ryan Papenhuyzen didn’t score a try against the Roosters, but he ran for 110m with a line break and a tackle break. He has scored four tries in his last five matches, including a double against the Warriors at AAMI Park. Against a battling Bunnies outfit, look for Papehuyzen to put in another strong display while scoring two or more tries ($3.90).

Against the Sharks last time out, South Sydney’s right-edge defence conceded two tries to Cronulla’s left-edge back-rower. Shawn Blore will be in that position for the Storm, and he has scored a try already this season with several line breaks and tackle breaks.
