Stars ready to dance again at Randwick

The Snitzel factor is a big part of the Gerald Ryan stable with the trainer again active buying his progeny at the Magic Millions sale before watching one of his sons run second in the $2 million Classic at the Gold Coast.

The most expensive lot at last year’s sale, Snitzel colt Chauffeur closed late to finish within half a length of Houtzen in Saturday’s Magic Millions 2YO Classic.

But it is one of the stallion’s older brigade who could fly the flag this weekend with seven-year-old Dances On Stars among the entries for the Listed Carrington Stakes at Randwick, a race he won three years ago.

“I’ve only just come back from the Gold Coast so I haven’t had a real good look at the possible field yet,” Ryan said.

“I haven’t seen him for ten days so “I’ll see how he is in the morning and make a decision on whether he runs this week or not.

“He’s a good old horse but he’s getting hard to place now.”

Dances On Stars was one of 10 entries taken on Monday with the nominations headed by Ecuador who prepared with a raceday gallop at Randwick on Saturday.

Ninth Legion, the 2015 Carrington winner, is the second-highest rated horse in the entries.

While he was at the Gold Coast, Ryan’s Sydney stable ticked over with good results including impressive wins by Red Excitement in Friday’s Gosford Cup and Menari, another Snitzel colt, in a two-year-old race at Randwick a day later.

“I’ve always had an opinion of Menari and he will run again in the Canonbury in two weeks,” Ryan said.

“Chauffeur is having a short break and he’ll come back and go to the Todman Stakes on the way to a possible Slipper start.

“Red Excitement has gone out for a break on the water walker and he is likely to run again in races like the Neville Sellwood and the Parramatta Cup.”

Ryan said he would train around 10 graduates of last week’s sale.

“The sale was quite strong and we’ll have an even number of colts and fillies out of it,” he said.
