Starc stars as Capitals down Sunrisers in IPL 2025
Mitchell Starc helped Delhi Capitals to a seven-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad on Sunday in Visakhapatnam, with the Australian fast bowler taking 5/35 as DC claimed their second win of the 2025 IPL.
SRH entered the match as -163.93 favourites to win at BetOnline, having displayed their batting prowess last week when they made 286/6 in their opener.
However, a trio of wickets for Starc inside the powerplay sunk Hyderabad’s hopes of another big total.
Batting first, they slipped to 4/37 after 4.1 overs with Travis Head (22 from 12), Ishan Kishan (2 from 5) and Nitesh Kumar Reddy (0 from 2) all falling to Starc, while Abhishek Sharma (1 from 1) was run out.
Aniket Verma (74 from 41) and Heinrick Klaasen (32 from 19) did lead a fight back to 4/114, but the renaissance did not last long.
SRH’s lower order also folded, with Starc picking up another two wickets in his second spell to complete his five-for and bundle out the hosts for 163 from 18.4 overs.
In response, Delhi came out hard and never looked troubled by the target of 164.
Live cricket betting odds quickly shortened even further in their favour when Jake Fraser-McGurk (38 from 32) and Faf de Plessis (50 from 27) raced out to 81/0 from the first nine overs.
Both fell in the 10th, but Abishek Porel (34* from 18) and KL Rahul (15 from 5) picked up where they left off before Tristan Stubbs (21 from 14) combined with Porel to get DC over the line with 24 balls and seven wickets in hand.
“Been a good day,” Starc said.
“All round, we were fantastic.
“I don’t think there are too many egos in T20 cricket, you have to hang for dear life.
“You have to try and do things you don’t normally do and find leeway against batters, nice it came off today.
“I’ve played for long enough, so I know what to do.
“Got to think outside the box, even as an older player you have to bowl different balls — glad that worked out.
“It’s great to get into a new, young group and form new relationships with guys you haven’t played with.”
Both Delhi and Hyderabad now sit on the second line of betting at $7 to win the 2025 IPL title across cricket bookmakers, with Royal Challengers Bangalore clear favourites at $5.
