Spencer to ride Brave Smash in Everest
Jamie Spencer will ride the ATC’s representative Brave Smash in the $10 million Everest.
The Everest will have an international flavour with Jamie Spencer to ride Brave Smash in the $10 million sprint at Randwick.
The Darren Weir-trained former Japanese horse will run in the race on Saturday week as the Australian Turf Club’s representative.
Spencer has been champion jockey in Ireland and twice in Britain and has ridden more than 2000 winners.
His Group One wins include the 2013 Mackinnon Stakes at Flemington aboard Side Glance.
The Australian Turf Club and Brave Smash’s owners, Australian Bloodstock, confirmed Spencer’s booking on Thursday saying it would add further international profile to The Everest.
ATC executive general manager of racing James Heddo said Spencer’s riding style would suit Brave Smash.
“Brave Smash has a racing pattern that will benefit from an experienced rider and Jamie Spencer fits that criteria perfectly” Heddo said.
“Jamie has ridden for Australian Bloodstock successfully in the past and the ATC is very excited to have Jamie visit Australia again to take part in a race which is attracting huge interest across the world.”
Golden Slipper winner She Will Reign is the TAB’s early $4.60 favourite for The Everest ahead of Chautauqua and Vega Magic at $6.
Brave Smash is at $26 while Coolmore’s representative Tulip, a $51 chance, will be ridden by Tim Clark.
