Cronulla Sharks vs Canberra Raiders NRL match preview

Sunday afternoon football for round four of the NRL wraps up in Cronulla with the Sharks hosting the Canberra Raiders at PointsBet Stadium.
The Sharks and Raiders have had identical starts to the season with wins in the first two weeks of the competition before losing to the Tigers and Warriors respectively in round three.

Canberra Raiders head coach Ricky Stuart has been forced to make a change with Albert Hopoate (injured, arm) being replaced by James Schiller. Ata Mariota has been named to return to the interchange bench and Corey Horsburgh could be a late call-up from the reserves in his return from suspension.

Cronulla Sharks head coach Craig Fitzgibbon had a week from hell with injuries in round three. Royce Hunt (injured, calf), Dale Finucane (injured, facial) and Toby Rudolph have all been ruled out. Thomas Hazelton and Oregon Kaufusi will start in the front row with Daniel Atkinson, Billy Burns and Tuku Hau Tapuha being added to the interchange bench. Siosifa Talakai has also been shifted into the second row with Kayal Iro named to play his first NRL match since 2022.

Cronulla Sharks vs Canberra Raiders predictions

Although the Sharks enter this match as favourites at their home ground, the losses in the forward pack will make Sunday evening’s match incredibly difficult. The Raiders have an incredibly strong forward pack that put them in positions to score points consistently this season. The Raiders have won nine of their last ten matches against the Sharks and are an incredible value bet to win again this Sunday ($2.35).

Hudson Young will be attacking the defensive pairing of Teig Wilton and Nicho Hynes on Sunday who have had their issues in the past. Those issues seem to have been fixed by coach Fitzgibbon, however; Young is a skilful second-rower who is aggressive and never gives up on any play. Young has scored a try in four of Canberra’s last six matches against the Sharks and is another great value play to score a try at any time ($3.00) this weekend with the top online bookmakers.

Xavier Savage has had a remarkable return to first grade on the wing this season with three line breaks, six tackle breaks and two tries this season. Not only is he fast, but Savage has grown making him harder to tackle and harder to push out of the field of play when diving for the corner in scoring situations. Look for Savage to be another any-time try scorer ($2.60) this weekend having scored in four of his last five games.
