Saturday Slingshot: Horse racing best bets for September 3, 2022

The Saturday Slingshot presented by Bettingsite.com.au is here and it brings you the best bets for horse racing in Australia on Saturday, September 3, 2022 to help you launch into a winning weekend on the punt.

All odds are provided by leading online bookmakers recommended by Bettingsite.com.au

Moonee Valley Race 8: #5 Uncle Bryn @ $2.30

Our best bet of the day comes up in the penultimate event of the day when the Trent Busuttin & Natalie Young-trained Uncle Bryn steps out over the mile. The four-year-old gelding was an eye-catcher behind Mr Brightside in the PB Lawrence Stakes first-up when making up ground from the rear of the field. He looks to be a genuine mile specialist having won two of his three starts at the trip and considering he was less than three-lengths off a proven Group 1 star when first-up, he should prove too good for this lot. A few of these are perennial non-winners and Uncle Bryn should be the one flying home down the centre of the track and getting the job done.

Randwick Race 7: #1 Zaaki @ $1.80

Since his first Australian win in May last year, Zaaki hasn’t lost back-to-back races, so on that trend, he should bounce back after his Doomben Cup (2000m) defeat. The Annabel Neasham-trained eight-year-old is one of the nation’s best horses, so there is little doubt that he would have held his own in either of the two 1400m Group 1 races that have been run over the past fortnight, but the connections have instead waited for this Group 2 assignment which we like. Zaaki won this race last year in a canter and he gets in here ridiculously well with 59kg, so he should be very hard to beat once again. Drawn barrier five, James McDonald will likely control the race from the front – or at least follow a horse like Bigboyroy – before producing the favourite at the business end. He’s odds-on, but he looks the bet of the day at Randwick given his fresh record as he heads towards the Cox Plate (2040m).

Doomben Race 6: #1 The Ritz @ $3.80

Formerly with Michael Costa, The Ritz looks to have developed into a really nice racehorse who is just loving what he’s doing with Michael Morrison now. The five-year-old gelding is probably a bit unlucky to not be coming into this with three straight wins after some terrific runs in New South Wales country cups. He bolted in three back at the Gold Coast before going down narrowly to the classy Hosier in the Coffs Harbour Cup (1600m) and then he had to lug 60kg in the Murwillumbah Cup (1550m), where he didn’t get the best of rides. Now fifth-up and out to 2030m, the son of Mossman should be mighty hard to beat. Kyle Wilson-Taylor’s 1.5kg claim means The Ritz only has to carry 58.5kg, while barrier one allows him to conserve his energy for the business end. This looks a great bet in the first leg of the quaddie.

Morphettville Race 1: #3 Miss Gobcain @ $2.00

The Mark Webb-trained Miss Gobcain has been in sensational form since coming to South Australia, registering a win two starts back before finishing second behind Ichibansan over 2000m here at Morphettville. The five-year-old is rock-hard fit, with this being her sixth run in this campaign and looks primed to step up to the 2500m. Despite this being a tactical affair in a small field of eight, the Americain mare should appreciate the genuinely run 2500m she gets here, considering she is a backmarker. Barend Vorster will have her moving through the gears with 600m to go, and although this will be her first go at the trip, Miss Gobcain looks to have a bit of a class edge on her rivals. We get better than even money with Marantelli Bet for a runner who relishes wet ground, so she could prove to be a nice bank-builder to set us up for the day.

Belmont Race 8: #5 Em Tee Aye @ $6.00

We are going to stick around until the last race on Saturday for our best bet to go around, and that is the Trevor Andrews-trained Em Tee Aye. This five-year-old by I’m All The Talk is ultra-consistent, finishing in the placings in all four runs this preparation. That includes runner-up performances to Rokanori and It’sarayday, which is very handy form for a Rating 72+ Handicap. Although drawn out in barrier 10, regular rider Shaun O’Donnell will likely take him back to midfield in a bid to find cover, which will allow Em Tee Aye to finish off strongly over the top. He’s ready to win again.
