The Saturday Slingshot presented by Bettingsite.com.au is here and it brings you the best bets for horse racing in Australia on Saturday, June 24, 2023 to help you launch into a winning weekend on the punt.

All odds are provided by leading online bookmakers recommended by Bettingsite.com.au

Eagle Farm Race 3: #2 Luncies @ $1.80

The first of the Group races at Eagle Farm will be the Group 3 Tattersall’s Cup, where the Kris Lees-trained Luncies has opened as an even money favourite and looks very hard to beat after his good run in the Group 2 The Q22 last start. This six-year-old gelding wasn’t given much of a chance by most bookies in The Q22, going around as a $21 outsider, but as he made his run around the outside of the slowing leaders, it was clear that he was going to run a big race and play a role in the finish. This son of Iffraaj will drop 4kg for this race on Saturday, which gets him into the race with the equal bottom weight of 55kg. Although the even money odds for a horse that hasn’t won since May 2021 appears to be unders, this race would be the weakest race that he has contested in some time, and he should be winning.

Randwick Race 4: #1 Contemporary @ $3.30

Contemporary has put the writing on the wall his last couple of starts and now stepping to the 1300m while dropping back in grade to BM72 level. He was competitive behind the in-form Devils Throat at Rosehill on June 3, just running out of time when powering through the line to only be beaten less than half-length. The extra 100m should do this three-year-old gelding a world of good, and with the 1.5kg claim courtesy of leading apprentice Zac Lloyd returning from suspension, Contemporary shouldn’t be far away from bringing up his third career win.

Caulfield Race 8: #5 Deepstrike @ $4.80

Deepstrike was a smart Sandown winner in similar company last time out and boasts strong form at Caulfield with two wins and a minor placing from his last four starts there. The son of Tavistock is already a winner at the Caulfield 2000m in his career, and with four wins and three minors on rain-affected going, we have no doubt that he will handle the conditions. He draws barrier two under Wiremu Pinn, who sticks on board, and considering he was aided by a rail-hugging ride last time out, a similar run with even luck should see Deepstrike prevail in the penultimate.

Morphettville Race 5: #4 Metro Legend @ $2.80

On June 10, the Aaron Bain-trained Metro Legend managed to gain an uncontested lead and, under a well-rated steer from Jacob Opperman, never really looked like getting beat. He strikes a similar race on the weekend, and considering he has four wins and two minor placings from 11 runs on wet ground, he should handle what is front of him here. From barrier four, with his customary early speed, Metro Legend should gain another uncontested lead en route to his second win in a row.

Belmont Race 1: #1 A Lot Of Good Men @ $3.00

We are more than happy to play in the opening race of the day when the Trevor Andrews-trained A Lot Of Good Men returns to the racetrack after a four-month spell. This two-year-old colt ended his second racing preparation with a fourth-place finish in the Restricted Listed WA Magic Millions at Pinjarra Park on February 18, after winning his second and third start. This son of A Lot has only finished out of the placings once during his short career, and his form is far better form than any of the rivals that he will meet on Saturday. Due to his superior form, this colt will have to carry the extra weight of 59.5kg, but he has proven that he is good enough to carry 58kg over slightly further last time in, so we don’t see it as a negative. Paul Harvey has ridden A Lot Of Good Men at all four of his starts, and he will join him once again this weekend.
