The Saturday Slingshot presented by Bettingsite.com.au is here and it brings you the best bets for horse racing in Australia on Saturday, July 1, 2023 to help you launch into a winning weekend on the punt.

All odds are provided by leading online bookmakers recommended by Bettingsite.com.au

Flemington Race 2: #2 Pacific Ruby @ $2.80

Pacific Ruby has strung together five straight wins across three campaigns and strikes yet another winnable race at Flemington. The mare returned with a smart victory at Sandown on June 6 and managed to get the better of He’s Our Bonneval and Barbie’s Fox. From barrier one, Matt Cartwright should have her lobbed in prime position just off the leaders’ heels. Pacific Ruby will need luck in the home straight, but if she sees clear air, her turn of foot should be more than enough to account for a field like this.

Sunshine Coast Race 1: #1 Defiant Spirit @ $1.95

The Stuart Kendrick-trained Defiant Spirit should be undefeated from his first two career races; however, last start he got too far back and ran out of time to run down the eventual winner, Upstart Legend. On debut, this son of Spirit Of Boom ran on from second last in a five-horse field to run away with a dominant 2.3-length victory at this track and trip. In another small field on Saturday, expect Ryan Maloney to settle mid-field off the rail so when the field rounds the home turn, he can find clear air and run down the leaders.

Rosehill Race 3: #2 Gracilistyla @ $3.90

Gracilistyla’s first-up performance at this course and distance in BM72 company is the ideal reference for this weekend. He met Saturday’s favourite, Resonator, on June 3 at Rosehill in a race in which you simply couldn’t make inroads from back in the field, then adding to the woes, this son of Medaglia D’oro couldn’t get clear when searching for rails runs. From barrier five, Kerrin McEvoy should find a position better than mid-field that allows Gracilistyla to show his electric turn-of-foot and secure a much-deserved victory.

Murray Bridge Race 1: #4 Dubenenko @ $2.05

Dubenenko has not raced since she fell in the Group 2 VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes at Flemington on March 11, when she was sent around as a second favourite behind Veight. The Russian Revolution filly has returned this campaign with two trial victories, and if she is anywhere near her best, the small field will suit perfectly and she should blow her rivals away. The fact we are getting even money about Dubenenko is a treat.

Belmont Race 9: #8 Category Three @ $2.80

After a tough victory when first-up on May 27 at this track and trip, Category Three from the Adam Durrant yard will return to the scene of the crime after a four-week break between runs. First-up, William Pike had this daughter of Xtravagant in the back half of the field behind a wall of horses, before he produced a peach of a ride to burst through a gap and win arrogantly. This four-year-old mare has won three and placed in four of her nine starts throughout her career, while she is also yet to miss the placings from four starts over 1200m. William Pike will be legged back aboard for his fifth ride on this mare, and if he can have her settled closer from barrier two, Category Three will be winning again.
