Saturday Slingshot: Horse racing best bets for August 26, 2023

The Saturday Slingshot presented by Bettingsite.com.au is here and it brings you the best bets for horse racing in Australia on Saturday, August 26, 2023 to help you launch into a winning weekend on the punt.

All odds are provided by leading online bookmakers recommended by Bettingsite.com.au

Rosehill Race 6: #5 Call Di @ $3.20

Call Di returned from a 140-day spell at Rosehill on August 12 and sweated up badly in the parade ring prior to the race, resulting in a significant drift in the market with online betting sites. It proved to be her downfall, along with a lack of race fitness. We expect Call Di to make massive improvements here, and with a possible change of tactics, look for her to come flashing home late under Nash Rawiller.

Moonee Valley Race 4: #7 Hennessy Lad @ $2.90

Hennessy Lad was only nabbed late by Brayden Star at Flemington on August 5, with the early work he was forced to do proving detrimental to what he produced inside the final 100m. He was forced to work three wide for the first half of the race before settling outside lead. There should be no such issue on Saturday, having drawn barrier three under Luke Nolen. We anticipate he will settle outside lead once again, and with a similar effort to what he showed at Flemington in BM84 grade, Hennessy Lad should account for this BM78 field.

Doomben Race 6: #7 Vodka Martini @ $2.30

Vodka Martini began his four-year-old season in the best possible way, defeating a small field with ease at Eagle Farm on August 12 over 1000m. The Kelly Schweida-trained galloper has never missed the placings from his eight career starts, and the form around him is very good for a race like this. This son of Agitate stays in Benchmark 78 grade and rises 2kg in weight; however, with Cejay Graham retaining the ride and taking 2kg off his back with her claim, he appears the horse to beat.

Morphettville Race 4: #8 Insulation @ $2.30

Peter Moody & Katherine Coleman send last-start winner Insulation to Adelaide for the first time. The four-year-old gelding unleashed a strong turn of foot to salute in a BM64 at Sale with relative ease. His minor placing when first-up at Sandown is more than good enough form for a race like this. Will Price will looks to have him midfield with cover, and when asked to quicken, we expect Insulation to put this field away.

Belmont Race 9: #8 Red Fifty Three @ $2.50

Nothing went right for Red Fifty Three last start at this track over 1300m. This son of Gingerbread Man was restrained from the barrier and settled at the back of the field, but due to the slow speed he began to over race in the middle stages and it ultimately cost him the race. The Grant & Alana Williams-trained galloper was an impressive winner two starts back, when winning over 1200m at this track on August 8. With little speed expected in this race, William Pike should be able to kick up on the rail from barrier one and sit behind the speed in the box seat. If Pike can get Red Fifty Three to settle better and find clear air with 300m to go, he should be winning again.
