Round 16 A-League multi – predictions and tips
WHAT a difference a mid-week make-up game can make.
The Victory and the Phoenix played a match on Tuesday night after their early season fixture was postponed, and the Melbournites were hammered by the home side 3-0.
A win for the Victory could have moved the big V within two points of league leading Sydney FC. Instead they sit five points back and an almost afterthought for the minor premiership at the $3.30 quote via Sportsbet.com.au.
Sydney FC is at the almost unbackable price of $1.30 for the premier’s plate.
We are looking to the 16th week of A-League action and there are four fascinating matches awaiting punters in our multi.
All odds for the 16th week of the A-League season were provided by Sportsbet.com.au.
Selections for the round 16 A-League multi:
Sydney FC to beat Adelaide United ($1.50)
Wellington Phoenix to defeat Brisbane Roar ($2.60)
Melbourne Victory to beat Perth Glory ($2.10)
Newcastle Jets to win or draw against Western Sydney Wanderers ($1.91)
Combined multi value: $15.64 @ Sportsbet.com.au
Sydney FC vs. Adelaide United
Friday, January 20 from 7.50 pm AEDST Allianz Stadium, Sydney FC
The league leading Sydney FC kick off our multi this weekend in the NSW capital as the Reds of Adelaide travel east.
The Sky Blues have taken all before them this season and are legitimately in conversation to finish the campaign completely undefeated. They had their chances last week against the Wanderers but failed to find the killer blow.
The Reds snapped an ordinary run to upset City 2-1 at home. It was a surprising win given they had scored just one goal from their previous five matches.
Adelaide’s win last week was impressive but it seems like a flash in the pan to us. Sydney FC should maintain their unbeaten run in victory on Friday night.
Sydney FC to win – $1.50
Wellington Phoenix vs. Brisbane Roar
Saturday, January 21 from 5.35 pm AEDST, Westpac Stadium, Wellington, New Zealand
The resurgent Wellington Phoenix host the Brisbane Roar on Saturday afternoon in a game that has serious finals ramifications for both sides.
The ‘nix hammered the Victory on Tuesday night to move into fifth position on the ladder. The Kiwis are finally starting to click on the pitch after a dismal opening to the season.
A win would be Wellington’s third straight victory on the trot.
The Roar are in a rut. John Aloisi’s men have not won in a month and a loss on Saturday would hand Brisbane their fourth straight defeat.
Wellington look in form and Brisbane look to be faltering. It all points to a comfortable Phoenix win.
Wellington Phoenix to win – $2.60
Perth Glory vs. Melbourne Victory
Saturday, January 21 from 8 pm AEDST, NIB Stadium, Perth
A great match up awaits punters for the third leg of our multi as the Victory travel west to face the Glory.
The visitors were ordinary mid-week against Wellington. The Victory went down 3-0, snapping a five game winning streak.
The Glory drew last time out against the Jets and will be looking to bounce back at home to keep their push for a finals position alive.
Melbourne had a rare off night on Tuesday and we are willing to forgive that. The Victory should get their name back on the winner’s sheet late on Saturday night.
Sydney FC to win – $1.67
Western Sydney Wanderers vs. Newcastle Jets
Sunday, January 22 from 5 pm AEDST, Allianz Stadium, Newcastle
The Newcastle Jets travel down the highway to face the Western Sydney Wanderers in an interesting match up to end the multi.
The Jets have been much better in the second half of the season. A win on Sunday could see them jump as high as fifth, whilst condemning their opponents to a finals-less season.
The Wanderers have not won in over six weeks and are in dire need of a win. Their 0-0 draw alongside cross-town rivals Sydney FC was encouraging but they need to take the full points sometime soon.
We were surprised that the in-form team were the outsiders here, so we were more than happy to take the insurance on this match up here.
Newcastle to win or draw is a great price and we are more than happy to finish off our multi in that fashion.
Newcastle Jets to win or draw – $1.91
