Ross happy with low-key approach

Trainer Les Ross is happy to sail under the radar with River Racer as she heads towards the Magic Millions Guineas.

River Racer will line up in the Listed Mode Plate (1200m) which was transferred to Saturday at Eagle Farm after being abandoned last week because of fading light.

Ross knows about the pressures of the build-up to the Magic Millions day as he also trains Frequendly who was ruling favourite for many week for the 2015 Millions 2YO Classic.

She drew an outside barrier and finished 12th behind Le Chef.

Ross has mapped out the $2 million Guineas, on January 14, as River Racer’s mission for months.

Although she has won only one race, River Racer is consistent with four seconds and two thirds from her other seven starts.

Ross has a high opinion of River Racer who he believes should have won more races and is up to stakes company.

“She has run some good races against smart horses without much luck. I am happy to just take things along slowly and have her spot-on for Millions day,” Ross said.

“You don’t win Millions races in December.”

Ross said River Racer was still likely to head to the Millions through the Gold Edition Plate and the Vo Rouge Plate later this month.

“She was a bit above herself when she was second first-up at Eagle Farm but the Millions is our grand final,” Ross said.

River Racer is owned by Leslie Ung who also races Frequendly and the consistent Friendly Dragon.

Friendly Dragon is to run in the Quality Hcp (1500m) on Saturday and Ross believes his best chance would be on a soft surface.
