NRL R7: Roosters v Storm match preview

Round seven of the 2024 NRL Premiership kicks off in Sydney on Thursday night with the Roosters looking to continue their winning ways when they host the in-form Melbourne Storm at Allianz Stadium.

Following losses to the Bulldogs and Panthers, the Roosters secured a two-point win against a Knights side led by an injured Kalyn Ponga last week in Newcastle. The Storm also won by two points against a tenacious Bulldogs side in Melbourne, having beaten the Broncos by the same margin the week prior.

Sydney Roosters coach Trent Robinson welcomes back captain James Tedesco at fullback, shifting Joseph Manu back to the centres and Joseph Aukuso-Suaalii to the wing. Sam Walker has been named in the reserves and could be a late inclusion at halfback, which would push Luke Keary to five-eighth, Connor Watson to the bench and Zach Dockar-Clay back to the reserves.

Melbourne Storm coach Craig Bellamy welcomes back front-row enforcer Nelson Asofa-Solomona to the starting side in place of the injured Tui Kamikamica (calf). Joe Chan returns from injury for Tepai Moeroa, who hurt his back against the Bulldogs.

Roosters v Storm NRL R7 betting predictions

The Roosters come into this match with an extra day’s rest compared to the Storm and have won each of their last 12 matches when playing with this advantage. The Storm have failed to cover the line in 10 of their last 11 starts, and their last four matches have been decided by six points or less. Expect the home side to win well in front of their home crowd and cover the -1.5 handicap at good odds of +102 with BetOnline.

Although dry conditions are expected, dew on the field and ball could become an issue as temperatures drop across Sydney. Some 15 of the Storm’s last 20 interstate night matches have gone under the total points line, while the Roosters may also struggle to score points given Melbourne’s defensive mindset. There is great value in the -111.11 quote for this match to fall below 39.5 total points.

Daniel Tupou’s form on the wing for the Roosters over the last three weeks has been brilliant, recording three tries from 13 tackle breaks and six line breaks. Tupou is equally matched for size against Xavier Coates but is considerably more experienced, while he has scored in each of the Roosters’ last three matches in Sydney. Expect the veteran winger to score a try at some stage, which is paying +130 with top NRL bookmakers.
