Roger Booth remembered at Sandown
Apprentice Brooke Sweeney has paid tribute to the late Roger Booth after winning a race named in the veteran jockey’s honour at Sandown.
Sweeney produced a well-judged front-running ride to win on $51 chance Miss Magda in Wednesday’s Tribute To Roger Booth Handicap (1400m).
All jockeys wore black arm bands in the race in a mark of respect for 55-year-old Booth who died last Saturday week after suffering a heart attack after riding in a race in Darwin.

The funeral for the well-respected Booth was held at Mornington racecourse on Monday.
“He helped me when I was younger coming through as a three-kilo (claiming) kid,” Sweeney said.
“Every time I asked for something he was always happy to help.
“He was a lovely, lovely bloke and unfortunately we lost him too soon.”
